Disappointed
I’ve been a long term LP customer religiously buying a guide for each trip and have a dedicated shelf of them proudly at home. The new style is pretty with beautiful pictures but the new maps are useless, the text is hyperbole without useful content or specifics- the entire thing is like one long instagram post. Ended up buying a second hand 10th edition instead which has been indispensable and highlighted just how much useful information has been cut. Looks like I’m about to become a loyal rough guide customer!

Lots of words, not much information
I’ve always sworn by Lonely Planet guides but I’m struggling to be positive about the newest edition of the Nepal guide. I’ve visited Nepal before but as it was a few years ago, I decided to buy the most recent guide to help with planning, in case things had changed much post-pandemic. I’m sad to say I’ve been reaching for my 2015 edition even after the new one arrived. The new one seems to have a lot of words but be very sparse on useful information. The maps don’t have a grid, so you waste time trying to find numbers randomly placed on the page. On the plus side, the photos are nice to see. With hindsight, I’d probably buy an older edition of Lonely Planet and scour Trip Advisor to plan a trip to Nepal rather than waste my money on this edition.
