Enchanted cozy fantasy
The book is written in journal or diary form. Every chapter is a date entry. The book started slowly. But it was getting more interesting as the story continued. Many things started happening. The author has given some additional information on some subjects at the end of some pages. The book is very descriptive. There are little dialogues in it. There are some folktales in the story. I loved those tales. I love the characters. Emily is not good at making friends. It's not that she doesn't try. She tries, but she can't. Wendell is the opposite of Emily. He really gets along with people quickly. There is very little romance in the book. I loved the small moment Emily and Wandell shared in the book. I loved that the author explored the dark side of the faerie world and its effects on the mortal world. I enjoyed the vibe that the book gave me. . The book took me to a different world, and I loved that world. I enjoyed the visual I was imagining. Mountain, forest, snow, winter, cottage, faerie, etc. This book is a great winter read.

An entertaining and quirky read!
Where the book worked for me:- The story has appealing characters who are detailed out really well. Emily might be tough for some to like, but her introverted nature and her passion for organising and planning her work list made me feel rather close to her. Wendell is beyond description – he starts off as a self-obsessed snoot but his character starts peeling off its layers quite interestingly as the story progresses. Many of the village folk, while in small roles, have equally interesting character arcs. Can’t forget Emily’s pet canine Shadow – he’s adorable!- Emily is a stubborn and demanding social recluse while Wendell is her exact opposite. Yet the two of them have a connection that is tough to resist. I loved their repartee and their easy camaraderie despite resistance from Emily’s side. I hope the next book in the series takes their arc ahead well without becoming clichéd.- There are also plenty of lore characters in the story, not all of whom are commonly seen in this genre. They add a fabulous touch of magic to the proceedings. Mind you, things do get dark at times but not so much as would creep you out.- I appreciate Emily’s journals being used as a narrative device. While this approach leads to some foreshadowing of what happened that day, it also ensures a focussed narration due to Emily’s very nature. There is not much focus on descriptions, but there is enough of it to make the little village come alive in our minds.- As the first of a series, the book ends really well. The important arcs are closed, and yet we have an inclination of where the story might go next. No cliffhangers.- Some plot developments caught me unawares but the author handled the unexpected nicely. It feels nice to be surprised when you aren’t expecting any deviations from the norm.- The book is somewhat slow-paced, but the plot was such that I didn’t even feel like speed-reading. Every scene contributes to the story in some way or another.Where the book could have worked better for me:- There are a couple of folktales in between and at the end. These took away from the tempo of the main plot. (I did love the stories; I just wish they weren’t bang in the middle of the story we were invested in.)- This is a complaint you will hardly ever hear me make. I wanted more of the romance! (Okay, okay, I know this isn’t marketed as a romance, but c’mon! It was like being offered a scrumptious cake but getting only one lick of it. I am hungry for more!)All in all, despite the somewhat roundabout pacing, I loved the story for its characters and its writing approach. I’m definitely on board for the next in the series. Can’t wait to see where the author leads Emily and Wendell!4.25 stars.Disclaimer: I received a complimentary copy of this book at my request and these are my honest thoughts about it.

Fantastic, wonderful story
This book wasn't on my radar. I might have seen this here and there but as i was browsing the kindle I came across this book. I loved the cover! It's stunning. I didn't even read the blurb and started immediately. The book start was quite slow with a lot of info - which makes sense. This is her encyclopaedia and most of it is written as a journal entres! This 300 page book felt like 600! But as it moved it became more interesting and action started quite at 30%! The stories, the old tales are very fascinating as if reading old fairytales of Faeries. The world building is very precise and elaborate. I loved Wendell. Best free flag bookboyfriend! I adored him and his he always protected Emily even if she was being unreasonable! They both are a perfect match for each other! This book requires patience so read this when you have some time to chill and relax as it will transport you to the magical world of Faeries.

LOVE THIS SERIES
Well written, very readable, story grips you from the start and draws you in right away. I am so enamored of the main character Emily, and all her assorted acquaintances along the journey. Love the "scientific" footnotes, love the unique feel of the hardcover panels and the cover artwork. A definite keeper for my personal library. Also appreciate that it is written by a fellow Canadian.

Enchanting!
I’ve been wanting to read this book for awhile now, and am so happy I finally got the chance. I’ve heard amazing things about it, and it definitely lived up to the hype. I loved it! What an enchantingly whimsical tale full of wonder! It’s one of the best books I’ve read this year.Emily was likable, endearing, and quirky. I was very intrigued by Bambleby. He was an interesting guy. You could tell that he had secrets, and I was very eager to find out what they were. I’ll just say that I was very surprised by them! Emily and Bambleby were quite the pair. Their banter was hilarious and quite possibly my favorite part of the book. They had such great chemistry, and I was rooting so hard for them. The closer I got to the end, the slower I read it. Not because I didn’t enjoy it, but because I was enjoying it so much that I didn’t want it to end. I wanted to stay in this world with these characters for a little while longer. This story is going on my “favorites” shelf. I know I’m gonna want to read it again and again. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys historical fantasy.

Amazing 🧚
There are some books that truly change your brain chemistry. It doesn’t happen often, but when it does, you feel it immediately. Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries had that effect on me from page one. 📖✨The writing, the plot, the characters—everything was so brilliantly crafted, so fresh, and so genius that I know I’ll be obsessing over this book for the rest of my life. 😍Emily's analytical mind combined with her total lack of social awareness made every interaction, especially between her and Wendell, incredibly engaging. I loved how the author gave us glimpses of Wendell’s thoughts while still maintaining the structure of Emily’s journal. In just a few pages, Wendell’s voice is clear and distinct without detracting from the fact that this is Emily’s story.I can’t find the right words to fully praise this author. She did an amazing job, and I refuse to spoil any more of it—this is a book everyone needs to read! I want a movie, a TV series, a soundtrack—I want my life to be this book! It’s simply AMAZING.

Whimsical & Wondrous With A Macabre Edge
’I suppose most children fall in love with faeries at some point, but my fascination was never about magic or the granting of wishes. The folk were of another world, with its own rules and customs – and to a child who always felt ill-suited to her own world, the lure was irresistible.’Charming, enchanting, whimsical and wondrous; Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia Of Faeries is a beautiful gem of a novel that you can’t help falling in love with. Throughout I constantly found myself unable to keep a smile from my face over the antics of Emily and Wendell and there was certainly something infinitely cosy about the novel, the experience of reading it somewhat similar to that of a warm embrace. Yet there’s a macabre undertone scattered throughout that feels perfectly suited to tales of the fae too. Naturally I was utterly beguiled by this book.Perhaps, given my love of all things fae, my adoration of this novel isn’t exactly a surprise. Yet I honestly can see it appealing to readers who don’t generally pick up tales about them too. Obviously, given the name, they make up much of the story but I can truly see any fan of cosy characters falling head over heels for Emily and Wendell. Both have their somewhat sharp edges on occasion yet their interactions with one another can’t fail to enchant you. Every time the two interacted with one another I inevitably seemed to find myself beaming. And I’ll confess that personally I adored the introverted nature of Emily, given my own struggles due to social anxiety. There’s an array of side characters to discover too who you can’t fail but find yourself similarly charmed by. Honestly it’s such a delight learning about all those who grace these pages. As a fan of the fae I have to also admit that I adored the authors approach to them too though. Like many of the best stories concerning these beings they’re portrayed as an intoxicating mixture of deadly and alluring. They’re beings that can bewitch you with a song yet have bloody folktales surrounding them. They’re beautiful and macabre, often at the same time. Within the novel there are several stories concerning them that Emily collects which have the haunting feel of the darkest of fairytales; something that I personally find impossible to resist.Another feature of this novel that I love is the approach that it takes with its writing. The book itself is presented as Emily’s journal and that in itself really adds to the cosy feelings of the overall novel. This factor doesn’t stop the story from being utterly immersive however. And there are a couple of surprise segments that delighted me even further. Reading this novel has made me desperate to check out more by the author as soon as possible. My TBR is overwhelming yet I adored this book enough to make Heather Fawcett a priority author at once. Finally I can’t help but confess to longing for more tales set within this wondrous world. For me many of the best novels reference past events, other characters or contain short stories that I find myself desperately longing for more of. And this book certainly did that. Many of Emily’s mentions of other dryadologists left me curious to learn the full stories of their explorations and I desperately need a collection made up purely of the stories that Emily’s collected over her studies. So ultimately I wholeheartedly recommend Emily Wilde’s Encyclopaedia Of Faeries to anyone who wants to snuggle up with a cosy novel containing a more macabre undertone, reminiscent of the original dark fairytales. Fans of the fae can’t fail to be enchanted by this beautiful book. And I personally am going to dive immediately into its sequel.Just as a side note I read the Kindle version of this book and for anyone also reading it in this form who spots an indication of a footnote but can’t find it they’re at the end of each chapter. Personally I recommend flipping back and forth to read them within their proper context. And for those who are wary of such features please don’t be, these footnotes fit the tale and its narrative format perfectly.
