Helps you understand what a good essay has
I liked that the book gave examples of the different sections of a high quality essay. I also enjoyed that I was able to read through the creation of an essay. The author provides a topic and walks the reader through all of the steps of the writing process.I received the book on Saturday and was able to read through majority of it by Monday. I read enough for an essay that I was working on. I used his advice and techniques for my essay, and today I received great feedback from my professor during office hours. While, I still need to work on strengthening my claim in my essay, I received good feedback on my thesis, sentence structure, and clarity. This is a great book to use if you don’t know the foundations of a good essay. This book will help you get to a good place where you can receive good feedback to better develop the topic you are writing on. Meaning, you could have less criticism on the writing itself, and more critiques on how you can further strengthen it.

Great book but long shipping!
I needed this class and I loved how clear and straight to the point this book was. Gives great suggestions and has an easy to follow format. However, I needed this book at a specific time and although I ordered it about a week or so in advance it took forever to ship out! I would have given it five stars only if shipping didn't take so long.

Very helpful
I bought this book as a reference book for my daughter. Almost immediately she found an answer to one of her college course format questions that had been confusing to her. I expect that it will be very useful to her in b the future.

Super HELPFUL!
Wish I had known about this book years ago; very simple method that makes sense for writing. Also, the author talks about the method, then shows how to apply the methods. The background, thesis statements sentences, introductions, and how these can be varied.

Must have for college students
What I liked about this book, is that it was written by a Professor. It teaches the college student what a Professor would be expecting a students written work to look like. It gives the student an easy detailed step by step plan on how to effectively write an essay. I strongly encourage anyone, especially college students to get this book, especially if your trying to enhance your writing techniques. It's a great book, very easy to understand that will definitely come in handy.

Much to offer, but not always a great model
I teach college composition and am always looking for a better and more straightforward way to give students the basics of writing good college-level essays. I was very intrigued by this book and its straightforward approach and almost ordered it as a supplement for my classes (to use in addition to the overpriced overblown "writing" textbooks I have to use). However, as I was reading it in the Kindle version, I noticed a key error in the parenthetical citations. In sentences with parenthetical citations, all of the periods were placed at the end of the words of the sentence instead of the true end of the sentence after the final parentheses. This is not correct in either APA or MLA style, and it's something I spend way too much time correcting every single year. It's a shame, as much else was good, but I cannot imagine explaining over and over again why it was done this way in this book. Sorry, but I got a Kindle refund. I'm a little surprised at this basoc error, and I would be courious to know if there is some other explaination for why the citations were done this way.

Important overview of essay writing, broadly informative.
I am a college student who writes a lot for classes. Doing okay, I wanted to try and better understand how to approach writing. This book covers a lot of different elements that are important, and tries to persuade the reader to format essays in a certain way. I never outlined before writing, but this book has changed my mind. While not integrating every aspect, I certainly appreciate some ideas that this author has. It is purchasable and a worthwhile read.
