Auto Vacuum
I own this Roborock 8+ and a Shark AV2501AE AI Robot Vacuum. This Roborock simply doesn't pick up all the dirt on the laminate floors and incompletely covers the entire rooms that it maps. As such, it consistently leaves lent, crumbs and other dirt after a cleaning. Also, it doesn't empty itself into the disposable bag in the unit effectively and you have to empty the units plastic container yourself. In comparison, the Shark thoroughly mapped and vacuumed all the dirt and went over much of the areas multiple times getting all the dirt. It also took the same lint, dirt and dog hair and emptied it effectively into the base unit whereas the Roborock consistently does not. I wouldn't buy another Roborock but intend buy another Shark to replace the Roborock. Unfortunately, before testing the Roborock I gave the Shark to a friend as a favor thinking the Roborock would work Ok. I'm happy I gave it to a friend but I wish I'd given them the Roborock now ha Oh, well, live and learn. I do like the Roborock cell phone application, however, but the dang vacuum under performs. The Roborock folks contacted me in a very helpful and friendly manner concerning my original 2 star rating. They asked for specifics and photos. From that we were able to get the vacuum set up for my country/small town greater dirt load and dog hair conditions. Their customer service was superb and they gave me solutions to the issues I was experiencing. I find the Roborock 8+ to be an excellent unit and it keeps the home sparkling! Thank you Roborock!!

Only vacuum use
While this item can mop and vacuum, I have only used it to vacuum. The positives are the mapping and the camera. The camera makes mapping very fast and also identifies items on the floor to tell you why it may have circumvented some areas. Pet symbols, shoe symbols, etc show you why it may have missed that spot. I have a room with a safety fence for which I keep the door open, but it can see there is a portion of room there that wasn't vacuumed. Because it does some real-time mapping, there is no need to "re-map" if you need to move the base as it will figure out where it is. On wood or hard floors it is rather quiet, but the sound ramps up on carpet (even runners). You can set a schedule in advance and it suggests various routines to you such as mopping or vacuuming your kitchen after dinner. The zoning works well so I can vacuum a different set of rooms on different days. In between I can just pick a portion of our home and ask it to only vacuum that area (like around our cat's litter box). While it does say it can avoid pet messes so the wheels don't "spread", that only seems to work if there is a big difference in color and shape. For example, it didn't avoid the hairball and puke on our tan carpet, but it did vacuum it up which caked up the rollers. For this reason, I would still check around the house if you have pets. I have chosen to not use the mop feature because it seems to only use water. That's not really mopping to me. I would rather use a gentle cleaner and actually clean rather than just spread water around a floor. I really didn't buy this for mopping though so it isn't a huge negative. My only negative is there is a bag in the base it empties into and there is no function that can tell you when it is close to full. Because of this my entire unit clogged (from vacuum through to the bag) and I couldn't even remove the bag properly. I had to cut the bag out, remove debris in collecting unit piping just to be able to remove the plastic fitting for the bag itself. I understand they may want to use the same software for multiple units, but even a reminder to check the bag after a set number of uses would be helpful. Otherwise, after having 3 Roombas this brand and model are definitely worth the price and I'd gladly buy again.

After initial hiccup - this is very cool! Cleans thoroughly, easy to use, independent
Ok - brief update 3 months now since the purchase: I love that vacuum! Now where I understand most of the app and the abilities of this robot (it took a while, seems I am not the sharpest blade in the cabinet) - I am so impressed. We use it right now at a house we will move into soon. We are already bringing boxes in, which are sitting on the floor and occasionally some furniture. So the obstacles are constantly changing. The robot is quite excellent in recognizing new items, large or small on its once programmed in map and navigating as much floor as possible while avoiding the new items. We also have a dog and sometimes already friends over with dogs. The vacuum gets most of the dog hair out of the carpets nicely (can't see much of it even when looking for it, lying on my belly on the floor). Sometimes I have to set it on the high suction setting and then it gets visibly (visible in the dust bin only) a lot more out. The mop function similarly - after we had guests I set it on the "high" water dispensing. Also nice - I can just set the rooms up with whatever they usually need, like the living room gets the high vacuum setting and the kitchen the high water mop setting. It automatically applies those. Oh - one more thing - since the documentation said one can not use any cleaning fluids but should only use water - I found the Roborock cleaning fluid which is labeled to work with all Roborock vacuums. And used it - hopefully this won't do any damage. But I do mix sessions with just water in (non chlorinated water, I'd think the regular chlorinated tap water might be more corrosive). So far so good. Overall - I don't want to live without this vacuum any more :-) *************************************************** Update from the first review: Initially I was a bit miffed because the vacuum can only connect to a 2.4GHz router signal but not the 5GHz, or one of the new ones where the router selects this automatically. I had the latter and had to purchase a new router. Ok. Now the robot works and is very impressive. It took a while to figure the app out, some clicks are not as intuitive as one would hope and there are not easy written instructions (did not want to watch YouTube videos, who has the time for that?). Anyways - I got it after a few wrong attempts. The app has everything one needs and allows to remotely steer the robot to do the cleaning or let it clean on a schedule. Once can also set the strength of the vacuuming and amount of water used for mopping - it all works as advertised. It cleans very nicely and the room even looks clean afterwards. It self empties and also empties upon request in the app. It all works. Hopefully for a long time - I love the machine!

Best friend (after the dog, of course)!
We are older folks and have 2 of these (upstairs snd downstairs) and they work extremely well. Our floors are pretty dirty from our canine companion. So they now get vacuumed and mopped every day with zero effort from us! Mop pad easy to remove (we bought extras) and wash in the washer. We have a little water bottle near the robots to refill the water tank! Only issues have been robot getting stuck where high carpet or rug meet wood floors! No-go zones can be established to avoid this! Schedules are easy to set up! Our friends “Rocky1 and Rocky 2” have been very helpful at reducing the physical work of housekeeping.

roborock s8+
All in all the robot vac and mop could not really perform according to what it advertized. The auto lift mop never worked. The auto empty dustbin too had frequent problems. Too much tangling and dust collection on the rollers. It is heavy so cleaning it often is not easy. Highly overpriced item , which had constant problems and by a little over a year broke completely. Robot vac which was a total rip off. Shark works much better. Although robotic vac are all more of a hassle to maintain.

Good but not worth the price.
The good: Vacuum is ok to barely decent, but pretty weak. Good on hard floors, doesn't do much on carpet at all. The ap is pretty great though, and well done. The bad: The mopping feature is more of just 'nice idea' and doesn't really do anything. Equivalent to lightly dragging a damp paper towel along the floor. Also, this model uses the ancient technique of vacuum dust bags, so you'll be buying these from them FOREVER. Overall, for the price point, not worth it. Better units or at least equal to this at $200 - 300 Price point.

Strongly not recommended
We purchased a Roborock vacuum cleaner in 2023 for around &1000. After only 2.5 years, the LiDAR system failed, which is a critical component of the device. Since the warranty had just expired, we were told that all repairs must be paid out of pocket, which is unacceptable for a product in this price range. Customer support was extremely disappointing — generic responses, no real assistance, and no willingness to offer a reasonable solution. I strongly do not recommend Roborock. High price, poor reliability, and very weak customer support.
