NEVER KNEW WOOD SPLITTING COULD BE SO EASY
Splits oak as if it were pine. Best splitting axe I have ever used.

A gold plated splitting axe?
I have just spoken with Fiskars UK branch and they confirmed that this product is identical to the Fiskars 122500 Spaltaxt X27 which is priced at £59.99. When I asked them for a product comparison with the Fiskars 7884 X27 36-Inch Super Splitting Axe they stated that at £153.86 it must be gold plated. I just hope that nobody has been or will be taken in by this scam.

Very good with reservations.
Purchased this from Tooled Up a couple of years ago at a good price. This is an axe that "splits" opinion owing to the fact it has a fibreglass handle that makes it a throwaway item if the handle breaks, a fair comment.I have used this axe to split down a 50ft Sycamore tree amongst others, it has a soft edge that as long as you keep sharp with a stone will go through most put in front of it.In short it is well designed and with the long handle it gets a lot of power behind it, the light weight of the handle does negate that slightly and deeper logs are not nearly as easily split as they should be, but so far it has done the job well and only time will tell if it becomes a throwaway item, if the handle does break I would buy another make, but I can't complain about the job it's done so far at the price I paid.

A joy to use.
Having researched and learnt there are many types of axe for different purposes bought this x27, Fiskars Splitting axe locally at a lower price, free delivery, so worth checking prices.first impressions it was light perhaps to light in weight, but in using on wood rounds it split them with ease, in fact the axe is a joy to use and can get carried away quite quickly, making the clear up of split wood quite time consuming.we had some rounds of sycamore this took 2 swings to split but another axle could not split them so not complaining. The handle is comfortable to grip, the axe head is surrounded by the handle shaft

'Nothing Special'...upgraded to 'Pretty good'.
At around £40 this is a little expensive. Yes it splits logs quite well but will not do the biz on anything over 18" ish diameter if it's oak or similar hardwood. I tend to use my Homebase 2kg maul (£20) to better effect. It's not really heavy enough and the blade metal is soft which means a good edge can be honed but is of little advantage as the required result is to split, not chop or cut. In addition the handle is hollow so as to reduce the overall weight which does not inspire confidence.06/03/2015. OK so it's now time to update this review as I've been using this regularly and I'm going to have to 'eat my words' as this splitter is turning out to be the biz. I have 5 different types/shapes/weight of mauls and splitters and guess which one I now use the most? I was probably being a little tentative with its use - now I really get stuck in and it has split some real beasties of oak and sycamore. Still not totally convinced about the hollow handle (although it does make the balance nice) but so far so good. Have upped that star rating from 3 to 4 and I'll report back in a while regarding it's durability and rating. It still can be had for around, or just over, £40 so have a good browse online.
