3 stars for as-is. 5 stars as a modding platform.
Like some others have said:1. The neck binding is ever so slightly inset from the neck. I intend to the sand the back of the neck anyway. Solved2. The pickup routes are a little big, but this can be "hidden". I'm replacing them with some P-90 sized Dyna-Sonic pickups anyway. I'll ensure a nice, even fit.3. There is a small spot on the volute on the back of the neck that could use a little sanding. Again, I'll take care of this.4. There is no shielding in the pickup cavities nor the control cavities. I have both copper foil, and shielding paint at my disposal. Not a problem for me.5. The pots are mini pots. I'm replacing those with solid shaft 250K CTS pots, as well as a mini toggle to bypass the entire tone-stack; the ability to truly plug straight in!6. The "blue" is more of a "Planet Express Ship green". I actually like it. So that' a good thing. I'm probably going to go with a Futurama-theme.So as-is? It's probably playable. 3 Stars. With all that said...I buy these inexpensive instruments as modding platforms. I expect to need to level some frets, adjust a nut, intonate, replace things, etc. I them more as a partially-assembled kit guitar. If you enjoy modding guitars to have something a little different than everyone else, then this is a great foundation. So as a modding platform it's great! 5 stars.

Excellent Grote LP w P90’s
Just an excellent LP styled guitar with p90 pickups. Everything works well on the guitar. I got the guitar to mod out but honestly I really didn’t have to do a thing. The guitar was set-up perfectly right out of the box. This guitar has gorgeous, very smooth stainless steel frets. The mahogany body coupled with the p90’s gives the guitar an excellent full-bodied yet crisp sound. I believe the nut is bone but I haven’t taken it off yet for a better view. The neck is straight and very smooth/comfortable to play. The stock pickups sound decent-I really like the neck p90 but the bridge p90 is pretty brittle sounding in my opinion.I upgraded the guitar since I already purchased the upgraded parts prior to receiving the guitar. Kept the neck p90( I never usually keep stock pickups unless it’s a high-end guitar) but put in a bridge P90 sized Artec Alnico 5 humbucker which I then coil split with a push/pull pot. I also put on black hardware.I want to stress again I did not need to do this. The guitar looks/plays/sounds excellent right out of the box. I love the nectarine matte color. Just a gorgeous guitar!!I have many, many guitars and have 5 Grote’s (Strat, Tele thinline, LP, SG, and now this model). My favorite was my black SG but this guitar just surpassed the SG. This guitar is perfect for a beginner. If it had a different name on the headstock this guitar could easily be a $400 plus guitar in my opinion. I’m really glad I purchased this guitar.

Complete Junk
This guitar came basically unplayable. Way too much neck relief and it was obvious why when it came time to adjust the truss rod. The adjustment nut was roached at the factory and the truss rod cannot be adjusted. The internal allen screw is rounded off and whoever set it up at the assembly line didn't care. They just covered it up with the truss rod cover. I wasn't expecting a $3000 Les Paul, but I wasn't expecting an unplayable wall decoration either. It is going back. This is disappointing. Grote needs to do some soul searching with respect to their quality control.

Don't waste your time.
So sad that anyone wasted their time with this guitar. Didn't router the correct size for the pickups. The tuning pegs are not even. I didn't even bother trying to tune knowing that I was going to return it. It was out of the box for about 15 minutes then packed up and shipped back. How they could make a fantastic hollow body, then mess up this simple solid body is beyond me. Oh and I forgot about the finish. Did a 10 year old apply it? Im done with Grote.. I also returned one of their strat guitars for having a crooked nut. I do LOVE my Jazz guitar, which was why I was willing to try this. You can find Epiphone specials for $100 used all day long...

It's a Les Paul with P90s, and more
Sure, there are lots of Les Pauls with P90s, and some are made by Gibson, but most I've seen have a gold top, this one is sunburst. The satin finish is not stunning as the ad copy says, but if some lemon oil is applied, it improves the appearance to look more like the marketing photos. Where this Grote excels is in feel. The neck is neither too fat or too thin, and the mine became my new couch buddy, but I wouldn't hesitate to use it on a gig. The P90s give you that punch which is often lacking in single coils, and the clarity which is often lacking in humbuckers. I have the Gibson gold top with P90s, and you can bring in this Grote at about 1/4 the price of the Gibson.
