Very clean! No odor!
First of all, there's just me and occasional guests using my Boxio. I've had it a couple weeks now, and after getting it I had a gastric bug. I was sure it wouldn't hold up, but it does! There have been no noticable odors at all. I took a cue from someone who advised me to add a Polident antibacterial tab to the urine bottle, I toss one in after emptying and cleaning. Also, the little red plug helps. The litter contains the dreck and I've not noticed any smell. I use bleach scrubbing bubbles every time after I use it and wipe the seat down.Cleaning, emptying, and original setup are very easy. Even with an upset stomach I only have to empty the Boxio roughly every other day.I recommend getting the max package with everything you need. I'm glad I did.The only caveats are I've not been able to keep the clips to secure the Boxio and riser from popping off. It's not critical at this point though. Be sure to center the drain in the seat over the urinal gasket after raising the seat. It wasn't onerous to clean up, just I'm not making that mistake twice.I'm very thankful for the thoughtful design and functional cleanliness of the Boxio. I've already had a couple people get interested in them, once they used mine. I can't say anything but how happy I an to have gotten Boxio rather than a different brand.

Ok waited a while - honest review …
The media could not be loaded. I’m full time RV and been using this thing for several months let me spew my thoughts…Overall I’m giving it 4 stars because it has a few draw backs but you can’t beat the price for a composting toilet which if your here reading this you probably already know they are very expensive kinda niche items…So I use Cedar shake from Walmart pet section, empty it about once a week. Despite what you may think in your mind it’s not fun. It’s not sanitary. And it’s every bit of a chore as it sounds like. So alot of moisture accumulates inside be prepared although I solved that with some modifications (read on) and the odor let’s just say is not pleasant. Emptying it is a chore. It’s quick and easy - just. Not pleasant. lol. But I made some enhancements that changed my world with this thing….So another thing the little plastic deals that hold the top and bottom together - yeah they suck fall off constantly and I find the dog playing with them “ ewwwwww ! “. I ended up screwing the two halves together and to heck with the “storage space”.Modifications :Well, the main thing that sets this one apart from its crazy expensive brothers is the fact that they have a fan and ventilation. So I decided I’d just add that little feature. I bought a brushless DC 12v blower fan, some hose and some 5000 mesh super fine screen. (Keeps the little tiny bugs out). After I deleted the black tank there was this nice giant hole in the floor under it anyway so I went ahead and cut a nice big old hole in the bottom of the Lower half put the fan and tubes in there ran them down under the camper (intake / exhaust) and then up each side of the actual boxio towards front there is space above the urine container I cut holes and got pool hose fittings air goes in one side out the other and back down under the camper. This completely ELIMINATED the odor entirely and massively cut down on the moisture level inside the unit. Emptying it now isn’t as much of a “chore” and drastically improved my experience with it. Total cost of modifications like 30 bucks all items I found right here on Amazon. I used a dremel to make the holes and fill foam to seal the bottom. I am extremely happy with the mods and now I have zero odor what so ever. It’s even better than the factory flush commode but I don’t have to worry about dumping black tanks. In fact I sold the black tank on marketplace for about as much as I spent on Boxio lol. Some guy wanted it for a cargo trailer conversion. Anyway - overall I’ll give it 4 stars I think it would be PERFECT if it came with the blower feature like I added myself from factory.

Surprisingly good value!
Been wanting to pull the trigger on a composting/separator toilet for years for use when camping and traveling, but could not justify the price they normally demand. First saw this model on a YouTube video and decided at this price I would finally pull the trigger. After using a few times, I am genuinely impressed with the quality and value and small packable size of this separator toilet. I was contemplating the Trelino but having trouble justifying the $400 price tag but when I saw this at half the price I decided to pull the trigger and give it a try. Quality seems great and I expect to get many years use Out of this unit.

Great product
Used a cassette toilet in our van for nine years then switched to this product. Great product that makes life so much easier. There is no smell or chemicals to deal with. If you do start to notice an odor, it is quick and easy to empty. Worth every penny.

Works but the small size is just TOO small
Updated after 3 trips: backflow of urine into the dry area, and into the general box, continues to be a problem. I have to clean urine out of the major area every time. Yes I can keep it in control because I understand the need, but pretty much every other person that comes on board cannot. Took away another star. Don't recommend at all.I've now had 4 versions of composting toilets on my various boats. I am very happy to see this become a trend as it make WAY more sense than the "Normal" waste systems like porta-Pottys or holding tanks. The problem with Boxio is just the size. It's surprisingly comfortable to sit on, so that's a positive. But the containers are just so small, the "10 uses" is a dream. 3 for adults, maybe 4. That's for solids. 3 adults of mixed gender aboard for a day-sail filled up the urine side to overflowing :-( Complaints about the female trouble getting the urine to go the right way are misplaced, it's not that it's made wrong, it's just too small. I've had the same exact style, but 50% bigger in a live-aboard situation and my wife had no trouble.Overall, this is an emergency toilet at best. Van-life people may prefer it over nothing I guess. But if you want a long term, easy and comfortable solution for multiple people/multiple days...this ain't it, sorry.I will keep it aboard for now since I'm solo most of the time. In that case it works acceptably for the short term.
