Danzig In The Moonlight

A great record, in fact his definitive solo record so far. An album which showcases his talent to a high degree and bookends perfectly between the last 2 Posies records ( Blood/Candy + Solid States). An essential purchase.

I'm not sure which album the other reviewer has been listening to, but this is a great set by Ken Stringfellow. Jesus was an Only Child is an epic opening track and there is no let up in standard throughout. This is my first review on Amazon, but I couldn't sit by and let the two star review put potential listeners off... Buy it!

This album is a fantastic example of an ageing musician who has a critically acclaimed (rightly so) back catalogue and track record - who has obviously ran out of money, source material and inspiration. Because the end result sounds like a lazy, albeit beautifully produced, lack-lustre collection of throw-away songs. They failed to engage me at all. I am a huge Posies fan, having seen them perform live two or three times in their hey-day. Sorry, but I have to warn people from buying this based upon what you might expect - hugely disappointing effort (effort - doesn't sound like much went into it!!). Avoid at all costs.

I think most Posies fans will enjoy this solo album by Stringfellow, the former Posies mainstay. That said, this album goes far beyond the power-pop stylings of the Posies. Dare I say, it's more mature and more varied than the stuff he was doing with that band, and I also think it sounds better! Yes, those are bold words, especially considering how devoted many Posies fans are to the band, but the melodic songs on this album are very strong, and I really like the way that Stringfellow mixes genres to create a sound that's not so easy to pigeonhole. There are some truly tuneful gems on here, things that range from pop-rock to a sound that harkens towards current Americana (his duet with Charity Rose Theilen, "Doesn't It Remind You of Something," is wonderful, as is the album's closing a track, "You're a Sign," another duet with an uncredited female vocalist), and a few tunes with subtle electronic flourishes garnishing them. Another highlight is "Pray," a delicious soul tune that has a retro 1970s Memphis vibe, sounding like it was produced by Willie Mitchell for Hi Records. I keep waiting for Al Green to sing harmony. It's that well done. I don't know what it is about these ex-Posies guys and their solo albums, but they are remarkable creations. I also thought Jon Auer's "Songs from the Year of our Demise" was outstanding. Even if you aren't a Posies fan, but enjoy honest, heartfelt "alternative" rock music (for lack of a better term) this is an album you should check out. Very, very impressive set of songs.

Ken Stringfellow describes this as the culmination of his 30 years experience in the music business. It doesn't disappoint, brilliant!

I will never understand why everyone on the planet does not own this music. Great job Ken and i look forward to your next effort!
