Quality food with a high price tag
I have a five pound chihuahua who is missing a few teeth. The kibbles are tiny little hearts which is great for small sized dogs. It's not soft food, but it's also not like the super hard crunchy kibbles that are usually sold in grocery stores. My boy is very picky and this is one of only two types of kibble he will eat. The bigger sized pieces break in half fairly easy. The food stays fresh and doesn't get stale as long as it's stored properly. It is expensive though. One bag barely lasts my dog a month. The bag is much bigger than what's in it.

Only recipe my dog likes
I’ve been feeding my 14-year-old Shih Tzu the Solid Gold Small Breed Dry Dog Food for a few months now, and I’ve noticed such a positive difference! He’s always been a bit picky, but he absolutely loves this lamb recipe. The small kibble size is easy for him to chew, and I love that it’s grain and gluten free—perfect for his sensitive stomach. His digestion has improved significantly, and he has more energy during walks. I also appreciate the high fiber content and added probiotics; it’s made a noticeable difference in his overall well-being. At his age, it’s hard to find a food that checks all the boxes, but this one really delivers. Highly recommend for other small senior dogs!

sensitive tummy approved!
amazing dog food. my rescue mutt came to us with horrible GI issues, he wasn’t on a good diet and was having diarrhea. this was the only food that calmed his stomach right away! thank you solid gold! his poops are perfect and he seems overall so healthy and happy. his coat is SO silky too so i think the food helps his fur. honestly worth the expensive price tag. it’s just that good!

My Dogs Love It, I Love that they get their Grains
I have two dogs and I foster and dog sit others, so I want to be sure I have food that most dogs should be able to eat. This has nice tiny kibble shaped like hearts. My dogs seem to think it has a good crunchy texture, smells and tastes great.I do mix it 3:1 with another Solid Gold weight control food, it mixes well.My dogs have regular movements and the nutritional value seems good based on report from the vet about their health. This food is on par with other dog food prices, but I prefer this one as it has ancient grains and no pea protein.

what a great find for our pup Goldendoodle!
Our new puppy turns out to be a very picky eater, we had just about tried everything. She only liked fresh chicken breast, rejects even yummy treats other dogs like, organic wet foods but with this? omg! she just can't stop!! So glad I found this product

Unfortunately, the Formula Change Has Resulted in a Lost Costumer.
With all due respect, I would like to better understand what data is collected and how it is collected from the consumer for companies to make “new and improved” changes to tried and trued formulations. Looking at the current reviews, most of the positive ones were made prior to the formula change. If your reviews show that we’re satisfied, why would you make changes? I understand that companies need to stay innovative but sometimes they need to apply the “if ain’t broke, don’t fix it” methodology.I have a 1.5 year old Cavapoo. He isn’t a picky eater but he does have a sensitive stomach. In doing my research, I came across this kibble that didn’t have that many reviews at the time but the ones that were written were very positive. Additionally, a few reviews specifically mentioned doodle/poo breed owners who experienced the same issues I did and had success with this kibble. So I took a chance and I started out by buying the 4lb bag and slowly transitioned my dog off of the Blue Buffalo small breed food he was eating. The reason I was switching from that food is because he kept having diarrhea and started eating around the “lifesource” bits. I read reviews about the blue buffalo food and many other dog owners were experiencing the same issue: their pup avoided the “lifesource” bits and had stomach issues. In the new formula of the solid gold kibble, the company has now introduced their own version of the blue buffalo “lifesource” bits called “nutrientboost”.I keep a 4lb bag at my parent’s house so that when I visit I don’t have to plan or portion out his food ahead of time. For the holidays, I wanted to repurchase a bag but unfortunately, the 4lb bag was only available in the new “nutrientboost” formula. I was hesitant but hoped for the best. Less than 24 hours into the new formula, my poor pup experienced a blow out diarrhea session in my parent’s kitchen. What a great way to start off the new year. Keep in mind that I am hyper aware of my dog’s sensitive stomach, so I only used 1/4 of the “nutrientboost” kibble while the remaining 3/4 was the original formula and my baby still suffered. He’s all good now that he’s unloaded haha.Anywho, into the trash this bag goes since I can’t get a refund. So now I will fork out $78 to send a 22lb bag of the old formula to my keep at my parent’s place. And now I am back to searching for a new food that does not include “lifesource/nutrientboost” pieces since they clearly do not agree with my dog’s digestive system. In the meantime, I will continue to buy the 22lb bag of the old formula until 1) it is no longer available for purchase and 2) I find a suitable replacement.P.S. While I write this review, many others complain about the formula change on chewy.com.Update: The company was nice enough to give me a refund!
