This is the third in Frusciante's (Red Hot Chili Peppers) five-record series. These four songs were produced by Ian MacKaye of Fugazi and recorded in Washington, DC. It follows Frusciante's other releases, "The Will To Death" and "Automatic Writing", a collaboration with Josh Klinghoffer and Joe Lally, also of Fugazi. John has been recording one full-length album every month this year and would like to release them about that often. Review: awesome cd - very cool and awesome cd by john frusciante 😊 only thing is that the case does seem a bit fragile so you have to be extra careful with it. it’s made of some kinda of paper/cardboard feeling material so be mindful of the folds and stuff. it has a cool texture tho. i love that the liner notes are in john’s handwriting. overall great addition to my collection 😊😊❤️☮️ Review: Great disc - Excelent piece of work from a great artist and composer, one of the best man in our times, totally recomended.

Short and Sweet
Released in September 2004; DC EP was the third in the series of albums by John Frusciante. In a change from previous records, where Josh Klinghoffer drummed; it was another of John's favourite drummers called Jerry Busher who took the role. The reason behind the name DC EP was because the record was recorded in Inner Ear Studios in Washington DC which is where Fugazi recorded many of their records. The link between Fugazi and Jerry was that he was Fugazi's sound tech guy. Although it has the least number of tracks and is the shortest in length out of the six albums, at only 14 minutes and 45 seconds; it certainly does not disappoint. The four tracks are `Dissolve', `Goals', `A Corner' and `Repeating'. The songs all have the same feel about them. I wouldn't say any of them really stand out but at the same time there are certainly no fillers. They are all good solid, chilled-out songs with grooves which are now instantly recognisable as Frusciante's own. The way the songs twist and turn is one of the key features. In addition there is not really any repetition. For me this keeps things interesting and refreshing, in an age where many bands have standard formulas for writing songs. Sometimes I wonder what genre Frusciante's music would come under, obviously some albums come under different genres, for example `Sphere' I would put under electonica and `Ataxia' I would put under prog rock. But it is becoming apparent that many of his albums including this one, `Will to death', `shadows' and `to record', fall in to the one. Although each going in different directions, I would describe them generally as soft melodic rock with a jagged edge delivered through John's passionate vocals. There is an air of simplicity which surrounds the songs on these albums. Furthermore he achieves sounds and effects which enhance them into another dimension. It's not as straight forward as just calling it stripped down, soft, melodic rock/pop. In fact you could call it progressive melodic rock/pop. Although the length is not reminiscent of what you would usually associate with prog rock bands. The song structures, instruments used and effects achieved definitely are progressive. As they push conventional, soft rock/pop songs to another level. Overall this is a great release, and certainly one to add to the collection. The four tracks act like a team, each contributing evenly to make this an all round quality EP; full of heavenly music.

DC EP... too short? Eh...
... no not really. But I know what you're thinking: "Just four songs? Is this really worth my time?" I'm here to say, to you, that it is. "Dissolve", "Goals", "A Corner" and "Repeating" make it worth your while. The first day I bought DC EP, I listened to this album like five times. Frusciante always has this thing to where he makes his lyrics true, so much like Yoda from Star Wars or Gandalf the Grey from Lord of the Rings. Music like this should be appreciated. That's why I totally recommend this album to any Frusciante or Red Hot Chili Peppers fan.

Another masterpiece
As usual, John Frusciante has taken raw human emotion and translated it to music. This EP is a must for any John fan, but it also would be a great intro to those who havent been exposed to John before. Unlike albums like Niandra Lades and Usually Just a T-shirt, this album has a very melodic and sane musical vein running through it. I would venture to say that this is Johns most "together" album. In past albums,John has taken raw emotion and just bared it without any refinement. This albums shows that same raw emotion but John has taken it to another level of refinement where the musical qualities can shine! Go get this EP!

A little Gem
All four songs on this EP would have stood out by themselves on any of John's records. They are catchy, have great melodies, display great songwriting, and possibly the most radio friendly of all his recordings. Its a shame more songs didn't evolve in this same period but this is still a little gem anyway. I can listen to this over and over. John's voice sounds great and the songs round out to an average 4mins each. There is no experimentation on here, just guitar, bass, drums and John's vocal. The only thing missing on here is Josh Klinghoffer, but that's ok, this is all about John. I;m sure any fan of John Frusciante has this EP already, but if you don't, definitely pick this one up. It's very similar to the 'Inside of Emptiness' LP and the final track 'Repeating' is one of his best. It will repeat on you all day...

Uno dei tanti "must have" per i fan di Frusciante, personalmente trovo le canzoni una più bella dell'altra e volevo assolutamente possederlo :)

SHADOWS…
