Product description 14x13x1cm. CD. desertcart.co.uk After fumbling around with hardcore iconoclast producer Steve Albini on Rid of Me (1993) and signing with U2 manager Paul McGuinness, Polly Jean Harvey is ready to live up to her lethal early promise at last. With its growling bass tones, "Meet Ze Monsta" sets the stage early on as Harvey explores her feminine psyche with an intensity and raw power unheard since Patti Smith's heyday. Unlike the terminally inconsistent Smith, however, Harvey plots a brilliant course through slippery laments ("Working For The Man"), corrosive testifying ("Long Snake Moan") and fuzz-toned menace ("Down By The Water"). Sceptics who think Harvey can't outgrow her art-punk base are advised to cue up the flamenco-inflected, string-caressed "Send His Love to Me". --Jeff Bateman Review: Happy with purchase - Arrived on time & in good order happy with purchase & seller. Why didn't I start collecting P J Harvey's albums sooner?
Years ago, a friend gave me "Stories from the City, Stories From the Sea". While I loved it, I didn't dare to buy anything else by P J Harvey - in case it wasn't as good. No worries on that front, 'To Bring You My Love' is a cracker (recommended by Guy Garvey on his 6Music show). I've just ordered "Let England Shake", hopefully it'll be here by the weekend. So its official; I'm a fan! While I'll leave concert going to the younger and braver, I'm gonna get hours of pleasure listening to the divine Ms Harvey.

Dark and at times disturbing - but somehow you love it.
Listening to this album for the first time, I could see that it was not going to be like any other I had bought. Being the first album by P J Harvey that I have bought, I wasn't sure what to expect. I soon realised that this would be music that creates a love-hate relationship for the listener. This is very dark music, darker than anything else in my music collection. Yet, as other reviewers have also pointed out, this darkness seems to draw you in despite yourself. Do not be surprised if this album takes a few plays before you properly get into it. One of the standout tracks for me is definitely "C'mon Billy", a song in which she addresses the man she has a child with, imploring him not to turn his back on his child. "Long snake moan" is another superb song, the intro draws you into it as soon as it starts. "Down by the water" is a chilling song, really quite disturbing. However, despite this, you are still able to see the qualities of the song - Harvey's voice makes it haunting and totally unforgettable. The only gripe I really have with this album is that I would have liked the lyrics included in the album booklet. The only real way to find out about this album is to experience it for yourself. If rock music is to your taste, give this a try. Do not expect lots of lovely cliches about love and relationships - you won't get them here. When she talks about love, it is usually the darker side of love.

Bliss!
I'm a big PJ Harvey fan and I love this album. It has, I think, more polish and finesse than some of her earlier albums but it's not over-produced so you still get the edge and the rawness. A thing of beauty.

CD arrivato in perfette condizioni.

En chansons, ça donne une collection inattaquable avec même quelques morceaux dotés d'authentiques hooks rendant l'expérience d'autant plus jouissive (Down by the Water, Meet Ze Monsta, Long Snake Moan, etc.) et d'autres plus éthérés et écorchés mais non moins réussis (To Bring You My Love, Teclo, The Dancer) et même une légèreté bien sentie (le folky Send His Love to Me). 1.
