A little redundant but a powerful approach
The underlying attitude of those doing shadow work is best summarized by Carl Jung who said “I’m not what happened to me; I am what I choose to become.” This is a great way of looking at things. And shadow work helps individuals look into the deeper reasons for why they find themselves suffering in their life. This book is written for those who may have never done shadow work before, and encourages the reader to do some of the difficult work necessary to get the great rewards after. They start with the basic concepts like “a crucial part of accepting something is that you know what that something is.” But don’t dwell on things too long and move through the concepts pretty quickly.I appreciated some of the suggestions to help the person who is delving into shadow work to stay motivated and positive despite some of the difficult things that may come up in the process. The author mentions that it is important to recharge your emotional batteries after completing a trigger log or any kind of shadow work. That is a smart habit. I think the trigger log portion is great and it is an important part of getting into shadow work. The affirmations and the different categories of affirmations to use when doing shadow work were powerful and I think really important. The book is pretty straight forward but there were some awkward sentences and some incorrect words like: “Thinking down the things that you are grateful for will bring them to the forefront of your mind.” , using the word “proceed” instead of “perceived”, or just awkward sentences like “ To self-improve yourself, it is best to confront all aspects of yourself and repress nothing, or at least as much as you can.” There wasn’t tons of this, but enough that I would take a star off. It is definitely a worthwhile approach and worth the read and price. This was my first introduction to the 4 archetypes of Jung. I found the information helpful, but once getting to the second books some of the information was redundant. So it was good to delve into this, and I appreciated that the books was not longer than it was when it comes to talking about Carl Jung. It was about the right depth of the subject for a book like this.

Difficult to understand how to use
Difficult to understand how to use this book. Seemed more complicated rather than a simpler outline.

Shadow work journal and workbook
I’m just getting started in the book but it’s well put together and arrived in good condition. So far I have needed to get some help starting as the explanations of the exercises aren’t clear. I understand it being vague as to not point the user in a particular direction. I’m hoping to reform and solidify my core beliefs about myself and remove the negatives of the shadows.
