Yes you can use the lids in the microwave. I removed the blue tab to release steam.

Q: Is the mug lead-free and cadmium-free?

Lead is not allowed in the production of cookware in most countries. Cadmium may appear in the glaze but without asking the company for detailed information about its manufacturing process, its not easy to ascertain. I've been around/used the various types of Corningware products for more than 50 years and have never suffered any ill effects including after using these soup bowls for more than 15 years.

Q: Do the handles stay cool?

I heated soup in one of these cups in the microwave for 3 minutes. Cup was hot, handle was cool.

Q: Can use as large ramekin?

Yes, it's microwave and oven safe. No broiler, though.
