I know these are meant for vertical posts, but I'm using them as post brackets for my deck railing. I have fourteen 4x4 cedar posts that I'm going to use for my deck railing. I was looking for post brackets and ordered these. They are nice looking and appear very solid. I was somewhat disappointed that most of my posts don't fit in the bracket. I had to use an angle grinder, sander and wood file to adapt the posts to fit (see video). This created a lot more work for me when I thought I was almost done with my project. The inside diameter of these is 3.5 inches...the same size as 4x4 posts, so they won't fit in without alteration. I've seen other brackets meant for 4x4 posts with the inner diameter of 3.7 inches which would have been the ideal size so the posts fit in as-is (I didn't like the way they looked, so didn't order them) Other than that, I am pleased so far. I've seen some other reviews on these rusting right away, but because I'm using them horizontally, I'm hoping water would run off instead of collecting on the base. Time will tell.

Easy to install on the deck, but these do not fit 4x4 posts bought from Home Depot or Lowes. The opening is much smaller. We had sand off about 1/16th of an inch on each side of the 4x4 to get it to slide in. Plan on extra work to get the post in or sending them back. Look exactly as they do in the picture and great when complete.

Great looking mounts and very sturdy when using appropriate hardware

Do not fit treated 4x4’s. Ended up having to cut them in half to get them to fit and the provided anchors will not hold up in concrete.

I recently used this 4x4 post base for a project, and I’m very pleased with its performance. The base is robust and well-made, providing excellent stability for my posts. My only small critique is that the hardware could have been a larger gauge, we ended up buy lag bolts for the deck. Overall, it’s a reliable and sturdy option for supporting 4x4 posts.
