Sergio Leone's classic spaghetti western forms the final part of the trilogy that brought Clint Eastwood to Hollywood's attention. During the American Civil War, the paths of three loners - Joe (Eastwood), Tuco (Eli Wallach) and Setenza (Lee Van Cleef) - cross as they search for the grave of Bill Carson, home to a hidden fortune. As the war intensifies, the treasure seekers become drawn into a battle that dwarfs their own mercenary pursuits.

Hoorah
Glad to find this is the original cut, MINUS the extra 14 mins of extra footage that was added on later. The extra scenes ARE included on this DVD, but only as OPTIONAL EXTRAS that can be watched separately, therefore not ruining the pace of the original film. Leone left those scenes out for good reason. (My suspicion is that when DVD's first came out, the powers that be thought they we needed an extra incentive to replace films we already had on VHS, so started whacking on deleted footage, and destroying the pace and feel of many classics. George Lucas kind of did the same thing with the special editions). Yep, the picture quality on this DVD isn't great, but I'll take the lack of a restored image just to experience the film as it was originally intended by the director, and which is the version I grew up with and adore. It's fantastic.

The best Western ever made
Arguably the best Western ever made. Faultlessly directed, superb actors. Clint Eastwood is a superb actor and this shines through in this. But the other major actors (Eli Wallach as Tuco) and (Lee Van Clef as Angel Eyes) are superb too and their performances are excellent.I've watched this many times from VHS video, DVD and now to this 2014 remastered blu ray version. The picture and sound quality are absolutely stunning. The sharpness and detail is incredible for what is a 50 year old film and at a little over £8 it is ridiculously good value. Also, I found the colours to be very natural and nice and vivid. I cannot see any yellow cast that other reviewers have mentioned (perhaps you need to alter your TV's picture settings)! Also, there is in excess of 1hour 30 minutes of extras. I've only part watched them but what I have watched so far which were interviews with Clint Eastwood, Eli Wallach and the Producer of The Good The Bad And The Ugly, have been extremely interesting, with all their stories they tell on the making of it, which goes even more to make this ridiculously good value.

Spaghetti western at its best
Who doesn’t love a good old spaghetti western and this is probably the most famous and definitely with one of the best music scores ever.
