MUCH better choice among the cheaper ones.
I had actually decided to get one of these as a funny. We have a Manx cat who actually does the beckoning paw thing when she wants attention. It's really adorable. One morning she woke me up by "beckoning" at my face, which amused my husband. She is mostly his cat, and she greets him at the door every day when he comes home from work. And it got me thinking it might amuse him more if he could see her doppelganger welcoming him home too. So I decided to look for one of these to put by the front door.My first option was a white one from a different company that was battery-operated only. That turned into a disappointment because it was inoperable entirely; as in the mechanism wasn't even assembled properly, so it was worthless. So I started looking again and found this one. I thought the 2 different powering options would double the chances that it would work like it was supposed to.It started waving at me as soon as I pulled it out of the box. Sadly the originally intended surprise behind it has already been spoiled, but I'm still happy I didn't let the first one ruin the spirit of it. I love this little guy. He waves successfully, even with little light. You just get a more full arc when it gets a full dose of sunlight. All in all, if you want a cheaper beckoning cat figurine that waves, I'd say these guys are a more solid choice than most.

5 stars
I have a battery powered one but this one is great! Never had any problems (no noise or anything, that's a weird complaint), it usually powers down by midnight and starts back up about an hour after sunrise. Can't beat that, no batteries, always waving when you're up! I had endless problems with the battery powered one.It works best when the solar cells are facing the source of the sunlight, but I've had it facing the opposite direction and it's still worked, just takes a bit longer. 5 stars tho!

Cute. A little bit noisy! Not as "gold" colored as photo shows.
This is cute. In photo it looked like it was a gold color. In reality, it's more like an orange color (plastic). Arm is still waving. It makes some noise, which surprised me since all of my other solar powered novelty toys like this don't. One thing I've noticed with all of these solar powered toys, why do they put the little solar panel on the FRONT! I have them lined up in my window at work. I want them to face ME! Not the outside. I think the solar panel should be on the back. However, even with it on the front, it seems to get enough light to make it work.***** Update - October 2011: Bought this a little over 3 months ago. Worked for awhile, now has stopped working. Have to manually move the arm to get it to start moving (still in a bright sunlit window where it's been from the start), and it moves on its own for a little while, but then stops again!

Not sure what to say... It was Cool
Not sure why I bought this, but it is interesting to watch him wave at you when the light is on him. Works great in the Sun or under Incandescent or LED Lighting

Fun Item at a Reasonable Price
I bought (5) of these at Christmas, one for myself and one for each of my 4 grown children. I put mine on my desk at work and thought the battery must be dead because the arm didn't move. Then we moved the location of our offices, and my cat's arm came alive once I placed in near a window with the sunshine it needed! If you don't have a space with lots of light, then considering buying a Lucky Cat that's battery operated vs solar powered.

Solar Happiness
My cat arrived in perfect shape - works great in a shady window or with the overhead light on... For those reviewers complaining about a ticking sound - just move it somewhere less bright... When in full sun, the cat waves so hard it taps on either end of the swing... suppose you could also cover a bit of the solar cell....Looks good too - not great - but for a few bucks, what do you expect?

CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP PIECE OF CRAP!!!!
I don't recommend these to anyone!!! These are made really cheap and flimsy!!! It started acting up after about an hour of use, the arm started to wave really slow. I tried to wipe the solar panel with my t-shirt to clean it and the damn thing broke off and fell inside the cat. I tried to reattach the solar panel with superglue, but now the damn thing wouldn't work at all!! Now all i can use this damn thing for is an ornament, not worth the time to ship it back for a refund!!! Save yourself the frustration, do not buy this piece of crap, you will be sorry!!!
