False alarms at all hours of the day and night
These alarms worked great for the first 3 years and then they went crazy with false alarms at all hours of the day and night. At first it was just when cooking on the range top (alarms are on different floors from the kitchen), but then it was cooking anything, anytime, microwave, oven, or toaster, or not cooking at all. Totally random alarms just to ruin your sleep. How can you trust the alarm with so many false alarms? The instructions recommended blowing out the sensor area with compressed air, which I did using a real air compressor in my garage, because it could be dust accumulation. We changed the battery backup every October, so that wasn't the problem either. And I eventually noticed that the light didn't always come on during the numerous false alarms. I finally disconnected them from each other and that helped (wireless interconnection) for a while but I also maintained the hardwire interconnect. A month later, it started all over again. Because these are Lithium-Ion batteries, they have to be recycled, but these alarms belong in the dump. A great idea poorly implemented. 10 battery - baloney. I no longer respect Kidde.

Alarming sporadically
Bought 5 of these units in Oct 2021, easy to install but after 10 months 2 out of 5 units have started sounding off sporadically. They seem to prefer midnight to 3 AM. They alarm long enough to engage all 5 units for about a minute then they stop. Have dusted them with compressed air and in a few weeks, they alarm again for no apparent reason. Dusting for last time today, one more false alarm and they are out. Paid over $50 each and failing in under a year. Very disappointed with these.

Prone to false alarms.
We’ve only had these ones installed for about 9 months and they have given us so many issues. As everyone else has stated, they give way too many false alarms. Always in the middle of night which isn’t fun with a toddler. We had another model in his brand they also starting giving us issues before we bought these ones. Fire department actually had to come out once. Needless to say, last night was the last straw. They are being replaced and I’m done with having nightly anxiety about whether they will go off or not. I haven’t called, but I see others have and they blame dust. Houses have dust. You can’t blame customers for having dust in their house. A minimal amount of dust shouldn’t be sending so many false alarms. Make a better product.

Nearly 3 years old units —- not acceptable
I ordered 5. The packages arrived split up. 2 of the units were substituted for the actual units I ordered. The 3 which were the correct model had wear on the outside of the package AND appeared to have been previously opened. The 3 years matters as these units need to be operating for 10 years —-> 13 years total is beyond battery spec. The order failed on many levels. Unfortunately when I saw the 2 odd units I arranged for return and reordered. But today I realized the 3 correct units were worn and so OLD. So the entire situation was a fail.

I have had to replace 5 of 6 of these in our hallways.
In less than 5 months, we have had had to replace five of six hallway detectors. Each malfunctioned and was declared a dud by our electrician and in one case, the fire department. Unacceptable failure rate, Kidde.

Fantastic sleep deprivation device, useless service
As others have pointed out, these are EXTREMELY prone to false alarms. We have 8 of these in the house we recently bought. In 6 months they have gone off multiple times. When contacted Kidde essentially blamed us saying it's due to dust. I can see how dust would cause a false alarm with a photoelectric sensor however:1) We have our ducts professionally cleaned every year including 6 months ago when we first moved in.2) We have our furnace serviced yearly.3) We have a whole house air filter installed.4) We live in Seattle, a city that nobody would call "dusty", especially not in the winter when it rains most days!We replaced the first 3 defective alarms with Google Nest alarms and wouldn't you know it, none of those accidentally go off! Last night one of our remaining Kidde alarms went off and that was the finally straw and I ripped all of them out. The Nest alarms are considerably more expensive but you get what you pay for, especially if you value being able to sleep through the night.

False alarms regularly
Avoid the photoelectric smoke detectors made by Kidde like the plague. My old model worked ok but was replaced under recall with the P4010ACS. I have 6 of these in my house. Once every couple months one of these will go nuts in the middle of the night (it NEVER happens during the day). My kids have gotten so used to these false alarms that they don't even get out of bed right away. Kidde says "keep them away from dust, open windows, ceiling fans, and HVAC vents, and clean them more often." Seriously? In 45 years I've never had a smoke detector go off erroneously except when exposed to kitchen smoke. In one year I've had these go off no less than 6 times, each time waking us from a dead sleep.

Too many false alarms
Randomly alarm. Frequently blow out dust with air hose. No sign of insects. Still random false alarms. Have 3 of them, each time a different one will trigger the whole house (the one blinking red is the one which started the alarm). Just ridiculous.
