Can the case be opened?

It looks as if it is not meant to be opened. There are no screws but the bottom part of the enclosure has 4 little slots where the upper body has plastic parts inserted that appear to be areas one could push with a small flathead screwdriver to disconnect the upper part. However, it is unknown how easy this can be done without breaking part of the case or the plastic "pins". Those "pin" parts might snap together in a way that makes it hard to get apart. There is no wiggle room in the slot. Looks like all one can do is push with a screwdriver.

Is is comparable with a dell

Do you mean is it "compatible" with a Dell laptop or desktop? If so, yes. It will work with any computer that has a USB port to plug it into. If you really mean is it "comparable" to a Dell numeric keypad, I would have to say that it is very likely much better because of its backlight and mechanical keys.

Mine shuts off and will not work again until I unplug it then plug it back in again. Why?

I don't know the real problem but it sounds like either your numpad is defective or the USB port in your computer you have it connected to is the problem. I have personally experienced various USB ports suddenly failing to work for whatever reason. I try to replug the device it's connected to it in it again and if that doesn't work I will connect it to a completely different USB port. So, if it works when you plug it back in again, the problem might be the USB system. If that is the case, returning your Kisnt Number Pad for a replacement will not fix the issue.

If you put the cursor in notepad, press and hold left alt, enter "123" in the keypad, do you see "§" in notepad?

The keypad doesn't work to enter unicode character using ALT-XXX format,only works for entering straight numbers,as the combined code sending function is not possible on two separate keyboards.If you want to achieve this,please select a full size keyboard with numeric keys.
