This was an impressive chisel and in it's size range (2") it was the best value of all the Amazon listings I reviewed. When I received it I was all the more impressed. The heft, the machining, the solid core and grip were exactly what I expected. The reusable plastic blade protector was even more appreciated. It felt like the Crescent tools I remember. This is the kind of tool that you use and then pass down to the next generation as a legacy of honest work and creation. It felt empowering and indestructable in my hand.

Decent chisel, excellent value
I wanted a wide chisel for certain applications. This is not a high end chisel, but it didn't cost $50-100 either (2 inch size). Definitely needs sharpening, just like about every other chisel. I was able to flatten the back 95% of the width in about 5 minutes, but it took another 5-10 to get all the way across. Used 400 and 1200 diamond, 2000 Shapton, then leather strop. Got it functionally sharp in about 1 minute. There is a slight hollow about 3/8 inch back from the edge which helped, sort of like Japanese chisel. Tooling is a little rough on sides and top, but a few passes with sandpaper smoothed them for comfort. I didn't get the full face of bevel fully polished, but the edge is, the rest will follow with subsequent sharpening. Took about 20 minutes to go from package to polished shaving cutting edge taking curls on end grain ash. Much better than expected given how much steel is involved. This thing is heavy and will take as much abuse or finesse as you need. For about $12, this is very good value. You just won't impress hand tool snobs. The synthetic handle is grippy and comfortable to me, although a little fatter than the rest of my more normal sizes.
