Great wisdom to be found in here
Great book. So much wisdom within this, learnt so much that I was currently unaware of and putting them into practice has gave me so much more insight to the harms some things as people we would t have took a second glance at. Fantastic eye opener for muslims in this modern world we have become to live in. Recommend to all people to have a read to be inspired and to change their ways for the better.

Who said the translation is amateurish?
Not an easy read, but you get used to the style as you go further into the book. I don't understand the comment about poor translation; my impression whoever wrote that comment didn't actually read the book, or perhaps - understandably- didn't fully grasp the content. I have both this version and the Arabic version, and while I prefer to read the Arabic version, I found the translation quite accurate and highly polished. The content requires no introduction though. Who knows Imam Al-Ghazalli would pick up his books without a second thought about his fantastic intellectually capacity, as well as his unique insight into Islamic teachings and world view.Highly recommended.

Not for the faint hearted
I have only touched the tip of an iceberg. The book has already changed my way of thinking and hence my life. It has helped me sort out my priorities. Ghazali's definitions of Intention, Hypocrisy and the Knowledge in particular are extraordinarily special. This is not a recommendation but a MUST read book...

Must Buy!
A good read covering all aspects with an introduction of faith and tawhid(oneness) followed by addressing the problems within oneself.

We have been waiting a long time for this
I hesitated a while before purchasing this, concerned it might be the kind of translation (forgive me for saying this) that sometimes issues from the Subcontinent with poor quality and an equally poor command of idiomatic English. Nothing of the sort! This volume is well produced, beautifully translated, and includes scholarly notes referring to authentic Islamic sources. As such it deserves a VERY wide readership! There is no other complete version of the Ihya in English — this being the abridgment, I suppose it's not the real Ihya, either, but a very worthy substitute until the Fons Vitae Ghazali translation program reaches completion (The Book of Knowledge: Book 1 of The Revival of the Religious Sciences (The Fons Vitae Al-Ghazali Series) for volume one). Read this book! Muslims are desperate for this knowledge!

Al-Ghazali

Frustrating publication of a masterpiece
This book is a frustration. Who wouldn't dream to have a condensed version, all the essentials of the Ihya Ulum ad-Din in one book, written by Al-Ghazali himself? And in less than 500 pages that is. The book comes in a beautiful hardback edition, with quality paper and an elegant script, and you even get a fabric ribbon to mark your page. And all this comes for roughly 20€. A dream right? So where is the problem? Well, simply, the translation seems to be off. English isn't my mother tongue, yet I read many of the Ghazali translations with perfect ease. This one, though, I didn't. Something just seems not to "flow" correctly. But that's not all. Very often, I'm quite unsure of what the author (the translator, rather) means, and I have to resort to other translations (of the full Ihya of course) to sort it out. What I see is something straightforward and clear in the others, and some sort of riddle in this one. Finally, and this is the most concerning, there were instances where the translation was understandable, but plain wrong, even to the point of saying the opposite of the original text. I hate to have to part with such a book, which is beautiful to see and promises so much, but I'm afraid it doesn't live up to its promise. Also, an index and a glossary would have been welcome. Very strange that the otherwise so careful publishers didn't care to include them.

OMG. Even the book's cover and pages are unbelievably wonderful.
And the Contents are no ordinary things. It a Wonderful book and I am just impressed with the equality of the pages and it's hardcover.... Never seen such light material, and yet thick pages. Amazing.I love the structure of topics from simplicity to super deep level. It is a great book to know what is absolutely required and what is nice to have. For example, for ablution, only 4 steps are required according to Quran, rinsing the mouth, nose, etc., are nice to do (Sunnah). This way you know the "can't miss steps" in practicing Islam and then over time you accelerate your practice. This book made it super easy for me to practice Islam. And thank God, now I have read more deeper books and increased my practice into "many nice to heave" (Sunnah, nawafil) steps.
