GermaMercuroChrome Antiseptic 1oz Prevent Infection in cuts, scrapes and Burns Qty-3

This is nothing more than dyed Benzalkonium Chloride, the feeble antiseptic found in Bactine that doesn't compare with the powerful antiseptic Merbromin 2% aqueous solution making up the fluorescent organic dye found in the original Mecurochrome. Merbromin molecules contained a chelated Mercury ion much like Haemoglobin contains an Iron ion. The mercury in Merbromin is chemically unreactive and cannot act as a poison. A person could drink a gallon of the original Mercurochrome containing 2% Merbromin and suffer NO ILL EFFECTS, much less anything resembling mercury poisoning. The poisoning scare fomented by lawyers ignorant of organic chemistry wanting to make money by way of product liability lawsuits in order to fatten their wallets, however, prompted Becton Dickinson to simply withdraw the only slightly profitable product from the market 18 years ago. Amazon offers a real Mercurochrome manufactured in Thailand containing 2% Merbromin in a small squeeze bottle for those interested in the REAL Mercurchrome as a highly effective safe antiseptic. The US product liability legal lobby does not appear currently interested in going after a small Thai pharmaceutical company.

Do not buy this product if you think it is at all like the “old” mercurochrome. It is far from it. One of the benefits of the strong red stain, in the original, was that bacteria can’t grow on stained skin. This product has a very very faint red color. But the essential difference, is that pain is not relieved and infection is not reduced. Healing is minimal. I found this product not only to be very ineffective but terribly and deliberately misleading by using the name mercurochrome on it’s label.

This is the stuff I grew up putting on my cuts that didn’t burn! I remembered the name and I’m so glad I did! Disinfects a wound. No pain- used it on my 1 year old when he scraped his knee and there wasn’t a single tear or grimace! Highly recommend and great value for the money!!

The seller markets the product as "Mercurochrome". This is totally misleading. Their label says: 0.13% bezalkonium.
