A suggested retail of $400 is wacky for this. If I didn't have gift cards to burn, I wouldn't have bought it, but here we are, so let's review the product for what it is. The three decks, while not being the most playable or cleverly designed from a game mechanic perspective, are on par with one another and are BEAUTIFUL. Some people say the Japanese cards looks better, but I find the less "foily" American cards easier to read, still holo where it counts. It's a very pretty set. The box is HUGE. Expect to have to clear out an area on your shelf for this, it's presence is known, and for good reason. It folds out into a game board for two. The board has similar feel to a Poker table, a slightly textured, felt feel, perfect for cards. The accessories (damage counters, poison markers, heads/tails marble system) might be my favorite part of this. THIS SHOULD BE THE STANDARD FOR THIS GAME! They should sell this kit individually, it really makes the game a blast to play. It also comes with three high quality deck boxes, and sleeves for the 180 cards you get. Everything nests together nicely back into the game board when done. Is it worth $400? Probably not. If we're being generous, each deck is probably a 40 dollar value, with the board and accessories holding their weight in about 100. $250 seems like a more fair price. These cards aren't tournament legal, but trust me, if they were, you wouldn't be using them anyways. These old school cards are too underpowered to play with the modern cards, so that's not really what the set is about. It's about getting three decks of beautiful, nostalgic cards, and a game board that will be the definitive way you'll way to play Pokemon moving forward. Great item. If the money is right for you and you want it, get it.

I must say, this is the most professionally packaged product Pokemon has ever created. The game board looks sleek and feels amazing for playing cards on. This collection is fantastic for me (who grew up when Pokemon started) and my kids (who are really getting into it now). Everything about this collection looks and feels high quality. Truly one for the serious collector, the beginner looking to understand the game, and for the nostalgic dad looking for a great way to connect with the kiddos.
