Q: Can a short person (5'3") read the "eye level" digital numbers of one's weight or will it be too high for them to see?

I am also 5'3" and have no problem reading the numbers on the readout.

Q: does the scale come with the AC adapter?

The scale we purchased came equipped with a 120V adapter (model ADPT31). We only use the battery component of this scale. Works well for a long period of time.

Q: Does it need calibration? Do you have to buy an AC adapter?

It's already calibrated by the manufacture. You can verify. It does not need an AC adapter. It only uses AA batteries which comes in the box.

the packing size was not bad on this product. I bought this for my son the doctor, and he uses it all the time. His patients love it with all the information it gives you.
