Q: do i need to drill my wall?

Yes, they are secured by screws and anchors.

Q: is 40lbs hold weight per shelf or total of all the shelves ? we want to put snowglobes on them.

The shelves are separate so I believe individually they claim to hold that much. They include drywall screws and plastic anchors. So if you make sure to use the anchors you should be fine. I only needed mine for light knick knacks. So I cannot say whether it holds up to the claims, since I didn't use the anchors and test it.

Q: what is the approximate hieght of the shelves when stacked above each other?

You dictate the height. The shelves are separate. You can arrange then how ever you want

Q: Can you mount this with command strips? Trying to make this renter friendly

Technically you could use command strips but that wouldn't be safe. I doubt the shelf will hold with command strips.
