Like many I bought a Pi 5 and needed it to be powered by PoE. I was a bit disappointed to find that there wasn't an official PoE hat that would fit so I purchased this. I've got to say I'm really impressed! the hat feels really well made, and it's great that it incorporates a 12v rail as well as 5v. I like that it includes a heatsink that fits underneath as I'll be using it in a confined space where ventilation will be limited, and I'm particularly pleased that it is supplied with proper thermal pads rather than the cheap double sided tape stuff that some other passive cooling products use. I've recommended to a friend.

The product is good and works well, I picked up one to see if it would fit into my pi cluster however due to the GPIO pins having a extension on it’s meant that if I want to fit all the PI’s to fit into the cluster I can have a max of 4 in a case that can fit 8. But apart from that it is a good product

It works, it provides PoE power to the RPi5. However, after only a few days, the fan became noisy. It's a shame the fan isn't speed-controlled, so it always runs. In the end I switched to using an external PoE power splitter, as it's silent.

Works as intended, however, be warned, the fan is always on max speed as it is wired to 5V supply (two-sided fan, no PWM-control) and is loud. I feel this is a little lazy of the designers, as even the official Pi 4 PoE hat has fan speed control...

Nutze den Waveshare PoE-Adapter für meinen Raspberry Pi 4 – funktioniert einwandfrei! Einstecken, läuft. Kein separates Netzteil mehr nötig, was Kabelsalat spart und ideal für Gehäuse- oder Wandmontage ist. Verarbeitung ist solide, kein Überhitzen oder Ausfälle bisher. Klare Empfehlung für alle, die ihren Pi sauber per Ethernet und Strom versorgen wollen – vor allem bei Dauerbetrieb oder Projekten wie Home Assistant oder Pi-hole.

The hat comes with everything you need to mount it, including a big heat sink that covers the chips on the board, and thermal padding. Mounting it is super easy, and it doesn't block the GPIO pins. It does significantly increase the height of your board but there are aluminum cases for RPi 5 here on Amazon that fit beautifully. The hat has a built-in fan that is very quiet. I used this with two different Unifi PoE switches and it worked flawlessly.

After a few months of running the ventilator of this board did go bad, making a lot of noise and running bad. Send an email to Waveshare support but no response.

Update after a few months of consistent use: I am now using more than ten of these in various projects, mostly using the Pi to operate large digital displays via HDMI. No issues with powering extra devices, full access to all of the GPIO pins, and access to the 12V header is a definite plus when it's needed. Some of my devices that are in enclosures with less than ideal ventilation run slightly warm but not warm enough to cause any issues. However, in enclosures with better airflow, temps have remained stable even while operating multiple sensors, background workers, and +43" always-on displays. Overall, I highly recommend these hats.
