It always felt vague, time-consuming, and frustrating—for me and my students. But The Writing Revolution 2.0 completely flipped that narrative. It’s not just another theory-heavy education book—it’s a practical, step-by-step guide that actually works in real classrooms. What I love is how the book breaks writing down into manageable, structured chunks—starting with simple sentence-level strategies and gradually building to more complex writing tasks. I didn’t have to reinvent my curriculum. I could integrate these strategies into what I was already doing, across subjects. ✅ Pros: Clear structure – no fluff, just actionable guidance Immediate wins – I saw student improvement within a week All subjects, all grades – strategies for ELA and content areas like science & social studies Perfect for reluctant writers – helps kids organize their thinking and gain confidence Supportive for reluctant teachers too 😅 ⚠️ Cons: Some examples lean academic—had to adapt a few for younger learners It’s dense in spots—tab or highlight sections to return to later 📌 Teacher Tip: Start with the sentence expansion strategies—they’re gold for building student confidence and setting a strong foundation. This book took me from burned out and unsure to in control and even enjoying writing lessons. If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by how to teach writing well, this will be a game-changer. Review: Every teacher should read this book - Love the way this breaks down teaching writing skills into small, manageable steps. It also includes a method for teaching note-taking. Students and teachers will both experience success using the approaches in this book!

How Did I Not Know This!
I have been teaching for 36 years, most of it without a district writing program. This book is so simple that it's astonishing. The book teaches a method and is not a program. It's a method that can and should be used across grade levels. The method leads to writing in content areas with results that show understanding of both writing techniques and content area material. I love that the authors give the whys of the method and not just the how. Understanding why students often struggle with writing is half the battle to eliminating that struggle. This is a game changer.

Excellent writing resource
I’ve been teaching writing for nearly 20 years, both in public school and homeschool, and these are among the best strategies I’ve utilized. We are only a little way into implementing the strategies with my kids, and I’m already seeing improvements in their writing. This just makes sense.

Helpful guide to filling in writing curriculum gaps, but...
I've been teaching middle school ELA for 7 years. Teaching essay-writing is always a struggle for students and for me. My district has followed a certain writing program for the last 10 or so years, with varying degrees of success. My area has a high population of English language learners, so this is a factor to consider when planning writing lessons. I really appreciate the early chapters on explicitly teaching concepts such as complete sentences vs. fragments and sentence expansion. I do see the value in the single-paragraph and multi-paragraph outlines. However, this is not sufficient for the planning process for secondary grades. Out of the whole book, there was only about a page dedicated to teaching students how to use evidence and cite sources correctly, when this is one of the big struggles with teaching writing to middle schoolers. The SPO and MPO do not adequately address separating students' own elaboration from their sources, in my opinion. I was hoping for tips that are simpler than some of the very complicated planning sheets we are currently teaching students, but not quite this simple. All in all, this book is a great resource when it comes to teaching the foundational writing skills that are so lacking in many upper grade students, and there are also many valuable resources when it comes to differentiating. I did appreciate that elementary and secondary grades were addressed in every section of the book, with plenty of examples. This will be helpful in supplementing my current lesson plans and writing curriculum.

***This is my first Amazon review, as I don't usually write them, so let it be a testament to how excellent TWR 2.0 is*** As a teacher of students with high literacy needs, the 1st ed. of TWR was already a godsend! It empowered me with the skills to integrate writing instruction alongside the intense demands of the secondary curriculum. It not only transformed my students' writing development but also how they saw themselves as learners—I am forever grateful to TWR. Given how 'revolutionary' (pun intended) the 1st ed. was, I questioned what the 2nd ed. could offer. However, just from flicking through, it's clear that this new release is far from simply an extension of the 1st ed. TWR literally JUMPS from the page in this technicolour edition filled with student examples and teacher tips. Calling this a '2nd ed.' does an injustice to what the new release truly provides: the Hochman Method remastered. Not only has the sequence been reorganised, but there are NEW STRATEGIES to scaffold students' writing development further. To any school or educator utilising TWR, this new release is ESSENTIAL to ensure the method's full potential can come to fruition.
