Well-built and works great
This hori hori knife is both durable and versatile — perfect for digging, cutting roots, and weeding. The wooden handle is well-built. It feels solid and comfortable in hand. A quality and handy tool that seems to be made to last.

To call this a workhorse is not exaggerated.
This tool is a great tool for gardening. The week I got my Tori Tori, I put it through the ringer. Partly on purpose, but mostly because of a project I should have finished months ago, but dreaded doing. First Task: The house I bought had a Cyprus tree in a bad spot that needed to be taken down. I did that right off the bat, but left the stump because it was in a tight spot and I knew it was going to be a pain because I couldn't used a stump grinder. The stump had so many roots it was maddening to even dig around to even access the stump. Enter Tori Tori (Once I remembered I had just received it the day before) the shape and sturdiness made digging pretty easy and surprisingly quick, but my chore turned into a game almost when I got to the hundreds of roots I needed to clear so I could use my sawzall on the main stump without killing my saw... Anyway, I found that the sawing side of my Tori Tori will not only saw, but chop like a champ. I couldn't believe it. If you know anything about Cyprus, it is a very hard wood. I was almost in awe. No nicks or scratches.2nd Task: I had some Dead Shiso plants I wanted to cut to the ground, but leave the roots to compost. I could have used my shears, but hey, Tori Tori is there and I would have to go get the Shears. In no time I cut right through the 1/4 inch stalks and even cut a couple apple branches that needed to go.3rd Task and maybe my favorite. I needed to take care of a bad decision I made when I put dirt and compost in my gardening area over the top of old larger chunked mulch thinking it would compost quickly enough. I was wrong and I wanted to fix the issue before adding in this years compost and early plantings. There was a small section of the garden that is much more shaded than the other parts and thanks to recent snow and rain, the first 3 inches of ground was frozen solid. My Sturdy Manure Fork, My Fiskars hand Trident and My Shovel were useless. Enter Tori Tori and the resistance was crushed with ease. How does a small tool crush the competition like that. The tool didn't even struggle.I LOVE this tool. I do recommend wearing gloves, as it could do a lot of damage to your flesh if you slipped, but I'm glad it is sturdy and sharp.I highly recommend this product. I'm sure if you did something stupid like put it in concrete hard dirt up to the handle and bent it back with all your might, you might bend it or break it, but you'd have to really be trying to break this thing. I can't imagine much more harsh treatment than what I did to mine and it didn't seem to even notice.Update 5/6/2022: 3 years later and I still love this tool. I still have the original tool but now I have two. One for me and one for my wife. It was getting hard to share. So, I still highly recommend this tool. The new one is still made super sturdy and still at a reasonable price.Only possible negative if you are used to cheaply made tools, is this tool is sharp. Remember, it's several tools in one. Knife, saw, shovel, measuring tool and in my case, I even use the saw side like an axe. You can't understand how much I love this tool for various garden tasks.

Wow just wow! Best garden tool I have ever bought
My yard is full of trees and therefore roots and due to construction (a pool build, an addition) there are random rocks everywhere. That meant weeding, planting, adding sprinkle heads and almost anything else are quite the chore. I found about about these tools/knives on YouTube and thought I would look into them. I had bought a similar looking Fiskar tool at Home Depot is pure crap so I was reticent but this is a very old Japanese design and this maker is one of the originals. The price for something of this quality in incredibly cheap so I thought I would try it. I am beyond impressed, this thing is so sharp it cuts though roots like they are not there. Digs into dirt so easy and pries rocks up easily. Also usefull for cutting branches, palm fronds etc. one side is a razor sharp straight blade the other is serrated. The handle is very comfortable and made of I think beech so cleans up easily and is super durable and water resistant. After using this for hours this week a quick spry with water and it’s back to looking brand new. It is just a well though out design (the curved blade, the handle, the ruler so you can tell how deep the hole is) built with quality and great materials and it comes with a sheath. The best lawn tool I have ever owned.

Awesome tool for plant/fungi collecting!
Works great! I use this for collecting plants and fungi when doing surveys! It is much nicer than carrying a trowel.I bought this one year ago and it is holding up great! I find the different edges very useful if I need to scrape bark to collect substrate or cut woody plants. I haven't noticed any degradation of the edges. The shape of it is also good for digging up roots in various soil types! Since it is a smooth steel, it is easy to brush/rinse off dirt before sheathing the tool. The sheath isn't very nice and "cheapens" the look of the hori. It is a cheap pleather material and (one year later) still has sticky residue on it from the brand sticker. I can work it onto my belt because the loop is a little snug. I usually toss it in my field bag or in one of my pockets in my overalls. If I ever lose this, I would buy it again! I would also buy this fir any of my botanist/field biologist friends.

A well made and versatile "must have" garden tool
My favorite gardening tool, this Hori hori knife is well made, with a two pinned full tang blade and a durable wood handle. The stainless steel blade is strong and will maintain a good edge, if sharpened. I've used it for weeding, digging, trenching, cutting and sawing. I'm on my third purchase of this brand tool. I'd lost one and broke the blade tip on the second (used it as a "pry bar", when I should have known better). An excellent choice for a sturdy and easily maintained garden tool.

Great sturdy multi-use tool
This is the best tool I have for breaking up dirt clods. The heft and length of the blade makes short work of breaking off the soil from sod chunks so the grass and roots can go into the compost pile. It's also a great weeder, tip is perfect for nudging out black clover weeds, the serrated side cuts through small roots, and it feels great in my hand. It's always in my tool caddy, and gets used a lot!

Great value and product, but why the excessive residue label?
For the price, this weeding knife’s quality and construction is pretty good. Heavy duty and solid, has a nice heft in the hands. Mine came with plenty of large burrs on the side with the knife edge, I ran it through my sharpener a few times to remove them. Able to cut through 1/4” branches and shrubs easily with light quarter swings. But the sticky label RESIDUE on the sheath! Please use a better adhesive for your labels, especially if you are going to run the label along the entire length of the sheath. Used all kinds of residue removal cleaners, still wasn’t able to completely remove the haze.
