Cheap, easy to use (with caveat)
I bought the $80 dollar Sony remote for my a7RIV but I'm concerned about the battery drain on the camera due to the Bluetooth connection. I haven't had a chance to do a full days shooting with it yet so I don't know what the actual drain will be. For $10 this insures that I'll still have the ability to wirelessly trigger the camera if I decide the Bluetooth drain is an issue. It can also serve as a backup to the Bluetooth remote. It's easy to use. Make sure the IR function in your camera is turned on. Aim the remote at the camera and press the button. 2 second mode is handy if you want to start the timer and then hide the remote before the photo is taken. 3 or 5 seconds would be a nice option but it is what it is. It might be possible to use the self-timer in the camera in conjunction with this remote to allow setting your own time. I haven't tried it.The only downside to the IR function is that the sensor is on the front of the camera, in the hand grip. To fire the camera you have to reach around in front and press the button. I'm fine with this. Most of my photography is landscape and this won't pose any issues for me. It would be nice if Sony put an IR receiver in the back of the camera too but that's not the fault of this product. One suggestion I would make is to put a hole in one end so you can put some sort of lanyard on it. This is going to be super easy to lose. It's pretty cheaply made but what do you expect for $10. If I manage to break it, I'll get another.

Nice Remote....
At first was skeptical about this remote, but it works fairly well. Has to be fairly close to the camera, but triggers the shutter with no issues. I bought this for wireless shutter release for my Sony A7R for Astrophotography and also to scan my film negatives. Make sure when you first get it, to go into the menu on your Sony camera and turn remote shutter On.

Taking self portraits
The good and the bad. What I like easy to use good to take self Portraits liking that u can do a 2s timer. The bad is if u wanna take a self portrait u can’t be far from ur camera and u have to point at the camera best way is to do a 2s timer if u don’t want ppl to see the remote on ur hands.

Feels cheap but works as advertised
Note: If you're going to test the remote, make sure you're standing in front of the camera. :) I thought it received a dud because I tried using it from behind the camera... like a dud. Comes with battery already installed which is great. I bought some back-up batteries to pack travelling. It's a little hard to open the battery lid. Per one of of the Q&A above, you should take a pen/small flathead and push the release button to the right (not into the remote). It'll create a gap to the left of the release button, which you'll use a pen/flathead to pull up the entire battery tray.

Worked great, easy to use
Worked great, easy to use. Had to be in front of the camera and have a line of sight to the camera (like a tv remote).

Beware!
Straight out of the box, it didn't work. Came wrapped in plastic, no instructions. Seems easy enough with only 2 buttons....except.... it's completely dead. It does NOTHING.

Not 100% reliable
It was easy to connect to my a6000 but didn’t work consistently. It had its own perfect conditions that it had to work under, but I never figured those out before I lost it in a pile of leaves during a photoshoot.

Survived a washing machine
Accidentally ran this remote through the washing machine... still works! Sony A7R III loves it. Follow their instructions and go.
