Fantastic!
This softbox has been fantastic. It performs great and was very affordable. The quick deployment and release system just make setup and disassembly so much less of a chore, and it even comes with a neat carry bag. The fact that it comes with two layers of diffusion material AND a grid provide quite a few lighting options for users, too. Unless you need it in a different size, you can't go wrong.

Finally, someone built a better solution for a pro video necessity.
As a video professional of many years, I've used softboxes of every sort. Some systems I paid hundreds of dollars for. But this Smallrig one is really ingenious! Saves your fingers and "pre threaded" so with just a couple of clicks it goes from flat to full. Cuts set up time down, and no one has to wrestle these softboxes into shape anymore. I'm slowly replacing all of my other sized softboxes with these from Smallrig, as they are a major improvement on something that honestly hasn't changed much in 25 years. Really well stitched and made, easy to store flat and compact, and quick to set up and strike. Again, I'm picky with all my gear, and this is just professional grade at a fraction of yesteryear's pricing. A no brainer buy.

Big, Soft, and Surprisingly Portable
Lighting makes or breaks your video or photo work — there’s no polite way around it. The SmallRig LA-O90 Quick Release Softbox aims to tame harsh lighting into creamy, professional-looking softness, while being easy enough to break down and haul around without needing a PhD in origami. ✅ What Works (Pros):Generous Size – At 35 inches (90 cm), it gives a beautifully soft, even spread perfect for portraits, product shots, or interviews. You’ll instantly notice smoother skin tones and less harsh shadows.Quick Release – The umbrella-style pop-up mechanism is genuinely convenient, letting you go from collapsed to fully built in under a minute. No wrestling with stubborn rods or cursing in front of clients.High-Quality Diffusion – Includes both an internal baffle and an external diffusion layer, giving you nice options for balancing softness and intensity.Solid Build – The materials feel robust, and the included Bowens mount adapter locks firmly in place without wobbles.Travel-Friendly – Collapses compactly for the size, with a nice carry bag included. ⚠️ What Misses the Mark(Cons): 🚫 Bulky for Tight Spaces – Even though it folds small, once opened it takes a lot of real estate, so plan for room if you’re working in cramped studios. 🚫 Mild Sagging – The large size means the outer diffusion can sag slightly, requiring occasional adjustments to keep it perfectly tensioned.🚫 No Grid Included – For this price, a honeycomb grid would have been a welcome bonus to help control light spill.🚫 Limited Tilt Angle on Some Stands – Depending on your stand, the size can limit your tilt range if you need to get fancy with top-down or side angles. Bottom LineThe SmallRig 35” Quick Release Softbox is a workhorse tool for any serious content creator or photographer who wants beautiful, soft, cinematic lighting with minimal fuss. It combines a professional look, easy assembly, and travel-readiness at a fair price, making it an easy recommendation for most shooters. In short? It’s like bringing a cloud into your studio — big, soft, and surprisingly well-behaved. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️☆ — Four stars for great performance and quick setup, with a few minor caveats.

Great fast set-up/teardown softbox
Great softbox, extremely fast set-up and teardown (maybe 2 seconds at most). Good quality and works well. I have a few concert about the longevity of the elastic band that it uses as part of its mechanism, but so far absolutely no problems.

Build quality is very good.
Made in good quality, easy to setup and pack. Not as sturdy as aputure but works greats. Good stuff. Smallrig always has good lighting/cinema gears. Good to travel. It is smaller so easier to carry.
