Engineer to be loved it
I bought this for my aspiring engineer for Christmas, and not only did he put it together right away, but he accidentally left it here when he headed back to school. And, then drove back an hour and half for this item. Definitely a good buy for anyone who likes building in your life.

Superb STEM kit for the right kids
This is a fantastic and in-depth STEM kit to kick start an older child's interest in electronics, robotics, and/or coding. There is a lot going on with this toy, so I would not recommend if you're unsure of your child's interests, but if you see them looking at the underside of any r/c cars and trying at the screws or looking to see how it functions, this may be a good fit.So I may have over-estimated my oldest with this kit (the kit does say 8+), but I can certainly see if my middle school nephew is interested. That is if I don't end up building it first, which is very likely at this point and I'm tired of waiting on this cool toy. I wish more stuff like this was available when I was a kid, but such is progress. I'll update this review once I've built and tested it...

Great kit
This kit is great for beginners and more experienced users as it has multiple options for coding. This kit comes with everything you need and everything is of a good quality. It's fun to assemble and is good for teaching coding. Everything works quite well once you get it all assembled and up and running.

Did not work
The car was fairly straightforward to build and my grandson enjoyed that part of the process. We were able to program some of the functions of the car, but never got the wheels to turn. Customer service was very difficult due to the difference in language and time. Ultimately returned the car for a refund.

EXCELLENT stem project for students!
I got this to allow for a few more advance students to do independent study with in a high school level comp sci class. For my purpose there, it's worked out great, and we've reached the point where they're making their own other things out of the sensors, motors, etc; within this kit.I feel like this is the next generation of the erector sets I grew up with, and far better than anything Kinex or Lego offers in terms of pairing hands on learning with the abstract concepts in coding.

A good starting point for novices willing to troubleshoot and go beyond the instructions.
The ACEBOTT Smart Robot Car Kit aims to provide teens and hobbyists an engaging introduction to robotics, programming, and microcontrollers. While the kit includes a solid assortment of hardware components, the overall experience is hindered by poor software, unclear instructions, and a frustrating setup process.Ease of UseThis kit is not as beginner-friendly as advertised. It requires 18650 Li-ion batteries and a cell battery for the IR remote, neither of which are included. While these are relatively inexpensive and easy to source online, they add an additional $15–$20 to the cost of the kit. The programming interface and tutorials presented significant barriers for a beginner. Connecting to the ESP32 board and running even the simplest tutorial programs often resulted in unexplained errors. These challenges make the kit better suited for users with prior microcontroller experience—or those willing to invest significant time troubleshooting.Assembly ExperienceThe car platform itself is well-designed, with adequately clear build instructions and reasonably high-quality components for the price. That said, assembling the kit still required some problem-solving where instructions were vague or omitted important details. While this could foster a sense of accomplishment for teens or hobbyists, it may frustrate those looking for a more guided experience. The motorized wheels displayed inconsistent behavior during testing, spinning at irregular speeds and stopping unpredictably. The car also appears to be relatively slow-moving, which limits its overall excitement factor.Programming and AppWhile the hardware is solid, the software experience is clunky. The graphical programming interface is difficult to use, particularly on a laptop with a trackpad, and the tutorials lack clarity and structure. Advanced users may find it easier to skip the included software entirely and switch to the Arduino IDE for more control. The app required for Wi-Fi control is another weak point. It’s not from a well-known or trusted developer, and setting it up might involve developer mode on an Android device—an unusual request that raises concerns about security and privacy. This limitation reduces the overall usability and trustworthiness of the kit’s ecosystem.Learning ValueThe kit provides a good foundation for exploring robotics concepts, like wheel control and sensor integration, but it doesn’t truly teach users how to implement these in a meaningful way. Tutorials focus more on walking users through pre-programmed features than on explaining the underlying concepts. For self-motivated hobbyists who enjoy reverse-engineering and experimenting, this kit provides decent value. However, it falls short of being a complete learning solution for teens or beginners.Fun FactorBuilding the car platform satisfies a maker’s curiosity, but the overall experience feels incomplete due to the software and hardware issues. While the potential for fun is there—especially for users willing to build their own custom projects around the platform—the kit doesn’t deliver much satisfaction out of the box.Overall ImpressionThe ACEBOTT Smart Robot Car Kit has potential but is marred by frustrating software and a steep learning curve. While it’s a good value for hobbyists seeking a platform to experiment with robotics, it doesn’t offer the polished, step-by-step experience that absolute beginners or younger audiences might expect. Be prepared to source batteries, troubleshoot connections, and possibly abandon the provided software for Arduino IDE or custom solutions.Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3/5 for advanced hobbyists; 3/5 for beginners)
