Beautiful, quality, smooth sewing machine!
I love this machine!!! It’s not all computerized, which I like because it feels like there’s less to ever go wrong. Still has all the different types of stitches I’ll ever need. Runs very smooth. Not nearly as loud as my old machine. Much less expensive than other machines I’ve found. Still carries a a trusted name in sewing machines. It’s not all metal, which I would have liked, but the important parts on the inside are. Guess it makes it less heavy and less expensive. Love the cover. Plus…it’s so pretty! I’m hoping it’s the last sewing machine I’ll ever need to purchase.

A nice machine for basic sewing tasks
I’m a 65 year old male and learned how to sew from my mother as a young teenager, using her mother’s old Singer from the 1930s. That machine died a few years ago, and I recently started researching new machines. I settled on the Singer Classic HD500 because it is heavy duty, is not computerized and is simple to use, and the styling is reminiscent of those old machines. I used it today to raise the hem of some new Levi’s 501 jeans, and the machine had no problem with the heavy denim. The end of the machine slips off (it has a small storage compartment) so that the legs of pants can slip over the sewing platform for rotation around while stitching). It has a dozen different stitches (most of which I will probably never use), and comes with some accessories. I also opted for the black Singer case to store the machine in when not in use. The hems turned out great and look like factory made (except for the color fading from washing) and I couldn’t be more pleased with this purchase. I will mostly use it for hem alterations and reinforcing pockets, etc. and look forward to many years of use. My wife laughed at me when I joked that it was a very “manly” sewing machine.

Intermediate quilter
Love love love this machine. I have another Singer, heavy duty one. This one is so smooth and the needle threader actually works, bonus. It truly is a work horse. I have been able the finish 2 queen size quilts in no time. No clogging, no breaking thread, just sit and sew. A fabulous machine. I know which Singer I'll be buying from now on. No extra features to break down. Just a outstanding, simple machine.

Great machine
Great machine that is easy to use. I wish the manual was included, but that’s just how things are today in the digital world. The bobbin is alittle challenging, but much easier to use as a drop in with a clear window so you can track how much thread you have. I love the look of the machine too. This will probably be the last sewing machine I need to buy because of the quality I anticipate having it for many years

Easy to Set Up and Quiet! I Love This Sewing Machine!
I am glad I decided to buy the Singer Classic HD500. Love it's retro look! More importantly, it is really easy to thread, and winding the bobbin was a breeze. I have not had problems with thread breaking like some have mentioned.. And the foot pedal works well and has a wide range from barely moving to high speed and it handles the fabric well at both speeds. This machine is much quieter than any others I have, too. While the outside body is plastic, the inside is metal and it is heavy so it stays put when sewing. Folks have mentioned the inconvenience of not having a full manual shipped with the machine. Some have mentioned they had to pay for it, but it is readily available on Singer's website at no cost.. Since I can't include the link in my review, maybe Amazon should have one in the listing? Singer has created the imprint of a ruler at the bottom front of the machine, which would be helpful if you could actually read it. It could be much improved if it were enhanced with gold metallic paint to match the rest of the machine. That is what I did and it is much more usable. I've included photos of before and after to see how it turned out for me.

Great sewing machine. Case could have been better.
I wanted to wait and buy a more expensive machine, but I needed it and got this one. That being said, I love this thing. The only annoyance is, the case that it came with has cardboard and styrofoam (it's like shipping materials) inside to keep the machine from rattling around inside. I had some leftover Pelican material to cut out and put inside so it works and I like the case, but the cushioning inside the case should be much better.

Caution
If I could I would give this machine zero stars. It has not worked properly from the beginning. The first few weeks it worked enough not to return it. But now that I can’t return it, it works good for a while then not. One thing it has done from the beginning is that it always has had a clicking noise from the beginning. I have tried to fix it to no avail. But it will work for a little then all of a sudden it will start knocking from the bottom and you end up with it locked up completely or it sews two stitches and then skip five. Then repeat with the loud noise but you always end up with blobs from underneath. I will change my bobbin and change my needle and it will work for a while, still clicking but still working, for a few days and then does it again. I do the same routine of changing the bobbin and the needle and it may work or not. I do it a few times then getting it to work maybe. Well now it doesn’t work without the thread getting bunched up and skipping tons of stitches. I have a friend that has a singer Heavy Duty machine and she said she has had a problem with that also. Of course it is too late to return it. But I do not want a singer machine if they all do this. If I were you I would get the warranty because you may in all likelihood will need it. Good luck!!
