So simple and so effective
What a great invention. I used to do tree work for part-time work and I had about 8 different sized chainsaws. I sharpened my own chains just using a single file with a small guide. I'm down to two saws (Stihl battery electric - love them!), and with these new guides with built in files, with a few swipes I sharpen the teeth and lower the depth exactly right. There is nothing worse that fighting with a dull chain or having to take a chain to someone else to be sharpened at some expense and taking more life off the chain than necessary. Just one or two passes with this sharpener is all that is needed to be back in perfect condition for the next time.

The simplest way to sharpen chainsaw chains
The dealer said that these sharpen chains better than the automated machines they use. It indeed does a great job, and it couldn't be simpler.

Requires practice.
I bought this after watching a Youtube video on chainsaw sharpening tools. I think I screwed up my chain but that's more my fault and not the tool. It does an excellent job. Only takes 2 to 3 passes on each link to get it sharp but took the whole chain for me to get used to it. luckily I have more chains. Keep in mind you may mess up your chain while learning to use this tool for the first time. There are cheaper knock offs, but stihl is the original.

Please check before using, or you can damage your chain!
I received the wrong file set. The files you are supposedly purchasing is used for 1/4" Pitch PICCO Micro Mini Chain 71PM3. It uses 1/8" Files. The file set I received is for a 3/8"P with 5/32" files. They look identical. It would have destroyed my chain if I had removed it from the package. I returned it right away. (I make mistakes also)On a positive note, I have several of these in different sizes for my saws. They are easy to use. I still use single files for the majority of my sharpening, and only use the 2 in 1 guides occasionally, as they will grind down your chain really fast. Use sparingly.

Works great
Makes sharpening green label chain a breeze. The yellow skip tooth variety can be done also, but takes a little finesse.

Replacement File
I absolutely adore this file, one hint is to take the indicator imprints on the tool and darken them with a Sharpie. Also, instead of doing one side of the chain then the other, I just flip the tool every tooth. Once you get the hang of it it is much faster. Here is a picture of the replacement file, the ones on the tool are thin enough that they sometimes break if you push too hard.
