Very Good for RP heads
I've ran this with a small group of 3 Player Characters and we've had a really great time with it. It is a really refreshing change of pace to your average adventure, even going as far as to have an entire chapter dedicated to opening a new tavern in the centre of Waterdeep. There is a lot of room to add your own flavour as a DM and in some places this becomes a necessity to help the adventure flow. Some DMs may find this lack of information frustrating at times, but I personally loved it. We even had a section where my PC's ended up straying very far from there original path leading to an adhoc Submarine mini game where they traversed the bottom of Waterdeeps harbour and faced off against the terror of the deep 'Obliteros'! These things existed in the game already, but how you use the information is often entirely up to you. The campaign has created characters and moments I think we will remember as being some of the best we've ever encountered. Perfect for those more interested in the RP than the combat for sure. A great book.

Nice low level intreague
Great story to run, it's relatively simple and plays off themes that seem to illicit good rpg discussion and fun. Multi threads of outcomes and plot mean you could replay it a number of ways. This would especially be so if you did so with different players. I think its replayability is quite low for the same group unless you have players who would like to replay stuff. I guess you run it brutally and kinda ground hog day it? I'm fond of sleuth type games so this scratches that itch. Reading through some of the threads are much more dangerous and some seem quite sedate. 5 star definitely as it is just charming. It could do with 2 maps of waterdeep. Double sided is fine in principle but not helpful if a DM needs to check it to inform players using the player side.

Excellent.
Much more to my liking than the other Adventure books for 5e D&D. A better setting with loads of opportunity for many different events and stories, much less time pressure, no giant end of the world stakes... it’s more realistic and it’s better for it. It allows character storytelling in a way the other adventures don’t do much. Curse of Strahd was my previous favourite, but the tone here is the other end of the spectrum. My party fell apart in distrust and dead and resurrected corrupted beings which ended up with players not trusting each other and the game grinding to inevitable failure. Which is right for CoS. And can be played well. But is draining. Waterdeep is the opposite but still with depth.

A fantastic adventure!!!
I can't get enough of this adventure!! it's stunning!! I've already started running it for one group, with plans to run it for another soon. There are several ways of running the plot, so it can easily be revisited multiple times without feeling the same. Long may adventures like this be written for us to have the pleasure of. More please Wizards. Thank you please.

Great book despite lazy errors.
This book has the beginnings of a great adventure. However, out of the box, it’s not perfect. There are continuity errors and contradictions in the story. Nothing huge, but considering it’s written by professionals, you’d expect better. Oh, and yeah, there is no actual “heist” lol. A little bit of tweaking and it’s fantastic. For example there are 4 bad guys to choose from. I prefer to have them all competing with each other for the prize. Not totally my idea, if you Google waterdeep dragon heist remix, you will find an excellent rework of the story that makes it epic. Still, the art is excellent, and it’s refreshing to have a city based adventure. 4 stars because I don’t think it’s runnable out of the box. But then again, I’m not a very experienced gm.

A great module for beginners and veterans alike.. characters, encounters, story.. all well written and surprisingly well balanced.. easy to play with little prep on the DM's side of things.. looking forward to following it with dungeon of the mad mage 😎

Not really for ne DMs but...
I dove I to this as a new DM, I would recommend starting someplace else like the starter kit or essentials kit but both me and my group are enjoying this very much regardless. Endless possibilities just in the city alone.

Awesome
This book is brilliant and has brought many laughs to my murder-hobo D&D group. The map included is really high quality and extremely useful.

Probably the second best campaign you can run! Great replay ability Good intro for the ONLY campaign that goes to level 20 I bet it would be a good intro for the best campaign (Curse of Strahd) STRONGLY recommended reading entire campaign before running If you run Spring/Xanathar Guild I recommend VGM (this campaign references that book a lot) Great guide book to Waterdeep included, would recommend reading that mini book to your players. Your players WILL need to avoid most combat in the later sections. Definitely a Roleplaying/creative problem solving campaign. Most of your combat should be in Chapter 1. Chapter 1 feels a little railroady Chapter 1 is incredibly dangerous to level 1 players. Very fun! Yoy could run the same group thought it 4 times having it different each time. Check out Alexandria Remix for players who love to take notes. (very complicated) Check out The Faction Expansion when you reach Chapter 2

I recently dove into D&D Waterdeep: Dragon Heist HC, and wow—what an immersive ride! The storyline is gripping, the city of Waterdeep feels alive and teeming with intrigue, and every twist—whether you're tracking gold, navigating the underworld, or making surprising alliances—kept me on the edge of my seat. The hardcover format is beautifully designed, with vibrant maps, compelling NPC profiles, and helpful player/advice sections that make it easy to bring this adventure to life. Beyond the excitement, this campaign felt like a journey of faith and fellowship. Just as our adventuring party must trust one another through heists and hardship, Jesus calls us to walk in unity, courage, and truth. The adventure reminded me of Proverbs 27:17: “As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.” Whether you're battling dragons or navigating moral choices, the bonds you forge and the choices you make reflect the heart of Christian community—loyal, brave, and guided by wisdom. If you’re looking for a D&D storyline that delivers tension, creativity, and a sense of purpose, Dragon Heist is a treasure trove. It shows us that even in the midst of questing and chaos, there’s room to lean on God and on one another—just like a party should. Highly recommend—may your rolls be blessed and your fellowship strengthened! 🎲
