Adobe Photoshop Classroom in a Book 2025 Release

I've used this for reference rather than linear classroom study. Well written generally and side notes provide useful info and references to relevant sections in book. I've found very useful.

As a comprehensive introduction to the kinds of things one can do with Photoshop, this book is excellent. There is even more to the program than I imagined. Instructions are very clear and appropriately step-by-step. Indeed, the only times I get "lost" is when I have failed to follow what is said to the letter. Moreover, there are bountiful illustrations and helpful 'extras' that point the way to deeper understanding. My interest is solely photographic, and so the chapter on video editing and a couple of others on typography and vector drawing were not of any immediate use. However, at least I know they are there if my circumstances or interests change. Quibbles: I should imagine that many readers will, like me, be approaching Photoshop after several years of being happy with Lightroom. It would have been very useful for this book to have been clear more often about where the added value, if any, lies in Photoshop. Obviously, not all aspects of Photoshop could be covered in an introduction of this kind. For that reason, the decision to spend time on, for example, Puppet Warp seems quirky.

Step by step guide to the mechanics of Photoshop that’s a bit frustrating because it uses some mystery numbers i.e. “type 50 into the dialogue box” without explanation of what the values do or why the author chose the value.

This is an excellent resource. I have used Photoshop lightly for a year - but this book took me back to the basics, which initially frustrated me but then I realised it actually developed an excellent base to build upon. I only wish I had bought this book a logn time ago! Now everything makes sense! The style of the lessons is superb - you develop from source to end result, and in the materials downloaded for the lessonss a start and (expected) end is always included which is so useful. I often repeat the lesson principles with one of my own images too. I highly recommend this book.

Expensive to buy but well worth it if you are a serious Photoshop user. Working my way through it and learning new things about the software.

Nowhere near finishing this book yet, but so far, it is pretty thorough. Impressed.

I bought my first CIAB about twenty years ago (when the books still had CD-ROMs attached), but had not touched Photoshop for ten years or more. Having recently subscribed to Lightroom/Photoshop Creative Cloud, I felt the need for some refresher training/updating. CIAB 2024 is perfect in this respect. The book contains 15 self-contained lessons, each covering a specific set of features eg Working with Selections; Masks and Patterns. Importantly, purchase of the book gives access to additional online resources, including downloadable images, video tutorials and interactive quizzes which supplement the textbook material, and appeal to a range of learning styles (visual, auditory, practical, theoretical etc). The preamble to each chapter states each lesson takes about one hour to complete, but this is very ambitious. My advice is, unless you're on a learning deadline, take your time, try to absorb the learning, and practise on your own images after you've completed each lesson. Okay, a bit pricey, but, if you have ambitions to become competent in the huge range of features that the latest versions of Photoshop contain, this textbook provides a very comprehensive starting point. Highly recommended.
