A beautiful peated expression from Tobermory
Always a great fan of single malts from the Scottish Islands, Tobermory from Mull being no exception, but I am also a lover of peated whisky, so this is a perfect malt for me. All the subtle flavours of a classic Tobermory malt, but with that added phenolic peated smoke flavour.Nothing like as heavily peated as Ardbeg, Lagavulin or Laphroaig but that is not a bad thing, it allows the other flavours of the malt to come through. On the nose you are not hit by the heavy Islay peat, just a soft smoke aroma, with the malted barly being apparent. On the palate it is deep & rich, again only a slightly smoke, but after a few seconds that smoke character develops with slight spice notes. The finish is also long & smooth, again with that smoke character lingering.I rarely rate malts above 80/100 but this is worth maybe 85/100 (deserved because of the price also, this is worth much more)

Gentle and well-mannered
Gentle and well-mannered this is an Island malt with all the expected flavours of peat, salt and chemistry but with an unexpected sweetness of and softness of flavour. A welcome greeting to the Islands without the punch of some of its big-brothers from Islay and elsewhere. It almost feels mean not awarding the fifth star but for my taste just a little more edginess would have made it perfect..... However I might revise my opinion on a warm summer evening when a malt would normally not be the choice of glass.... This one just might slide in between the chilled wine and bed-time....

A worthwhile alternative to Islay whisky's
What's not to like about this Tobermory whisky. This 10 year old peated offering still has the Tobermory profile signature underneath the peated flavour. I like this whisky very much and is a worthwhile alternative to Islay whisky's.

Sweet n' Peat
A Whisky that understands the importance of balance. This is not a peat monster, its a marriage of sweet and peat, closer to candied bacon, BBQ and honey glaze than other prominent peat flavours such as wood smoke, medicinal herbs and tobacco.Nose: treacle and maple syrup. The smokiness is gentle but very present.Palate: sweet and smokey. Maple syrup and smoked meats. Slight savoury notes like cinnamon buns and sticky toffee pudding. Delightful.Finish: oily and sweet, again like a thin maple syrup. Lingering but not too spicy.Very moreish, easy to pour the second, and then the third. Unparalleled quality for the very reasonable asking price.Top tier for its category.

Luxury top quality whiskey
This is a fantastic single malt that any whiskey lover would indulge in. Great gift and comes in a nice presentation box. Higher price whiskey range, but worth it if you want a luxury whiskey for a present. Good strong peaty flavour.

Quality and value alternative to Islay
From the isle of Mull comes this peated Tobermory (Ledaig was one of the former names of the distillery). The quality and value are enhanced by some key features:* No added colour. The deep amber hue therefore reveals impressive levels of interaction with active Bourbon casks.* Non-chill filtered. Traditional barrier filtration leaves in fatty compounds which may cause clouding when water is added but retains more body and depth of flavour.* High abv of 46.3%, packing intensity and allowing the consumer to dilute to the desired level (or to drink neat). The spirit and casks used in the production are of high quality and the result is a full bodied dram, which oozes class. The texture is viscous. The peat influence is strong (35ppm) and smoky (sooty, only slightly medicinal) but over time and with a little water the underlying layers are revealed. Ginger, vanilla and cinnamon from the casks are prominent, some grassy/hay notes too. Earthiness, sweetness and peppery spiciness are balanced well. The owners, Burn Stewart, are to be commended. Everything about the production process is geared to produce a high quality product with no compromises or concessions to commercialism. The resulting single malt compares very favourably with most of the Islay producers and beats them for value too.
