Love this seller
Purchased this kit as a Christmas gift for our son-in-law because it has everything you need as a mead-making beginner. When he opened it the hydrometer was damaged. We reached out and HomeBrewStuff immediately sent a replacement direct to his home. It is rare you find that kind of exceptional customer service these days! Son-in-law is so excited to start making mead and we're excited to try his finished product. Definitely will return to purchase future items from this seller.

The instructions are simple and easy to understand and the materials all seem to be ...
After carefully looking around I chose this kit thinking I could replace items that may or may not be missing, some of the older reviews had me nervous. Turns out my fears were completely unfounded as all items arrived intact and I am one pot of hot water away from starting my own adventure in making mead. The instructions are simple and easy to understand and the materials all seem to be of good quality, if your looking for a beginners level look no further.

Great!
Love this kit. It's great for starting out with a traditional mead. Honey tasted good. Have yet to have a finished product yet but so far everything seems to be going well. All of the supplies arrived intact and clean. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars is because for a beginner, the instructions are kind of vague.

Great
Sure,I could get the pieces cheaper myself but as a beginning brewer this is incredibly convenient and just easier to buy it as a kit. Only thing I wish the kit included would be bottles for your finished brew. Oh well, guess its an excuse to have to buy some craft beer and save the bottles!

Great starter.
Good starter kit, bought it just to try out, been brewing for several years. Ended up with a dry traditional mead, very simple to set up and use.

Great honey
Works great. Great honey. Taste better made in glass not plastic but that's my learning curve

Insufficient all the way around
If you are looking to start a hobby of homebrewing, this kit is not for you.The Manual:The mead making manual that comes with it? A joke, often contradicting itself. While reading it, you will find it is written in an unclear manner, and will leave you scratching your head. You're much better off splurging on a recipe book talking you through the mead making process.Stick on thermometer:Stopped sticking and reading temperature halfway through the process. Utterly useless.Auto-siphon and tubing:The auto-siphon and tubing? They do not come connected to one another, which is not my complaint. My complaint is that the tubing is the same size as the auto-siphon, making it damn near impossible to attach to one another. Much simpler to attach a funnel with a filter to the glass carboy and pour it in.Hydrometer:Doesn't come with test tube, so no proper way to utilize.Capdmen Tablets:Nowhere in the manual you receive fitted it talk you what to do with them, and to add to your confusion, many homebrewers online have different advice for campden tablets. The three-stage airlock:The manual actually does mention the airlock, but only to acknowledge its existence. You will be left on your own to figure out how a properly assembled airlock should look. A quick google search will solve that for you.The glass carboy:No real complaints about this piece of equipment. The bucket:The uselessness of the bucket you receive upsets me to no end. First and most importantly, I could find no way of removing the lid easily. After prying off the lid it is no longer usable.THIS IS A SINGLE USE ITEM.Splurge and buy something you can use multiple times, or at least be better at removing the lid than I am.The rubber gasket the airlock sticks into to provide an airtight seal? Not properly attached, meaning air is entering your fermenting mead. As I tried to fix it, the gasket came OFF and fell into my mead, contaminating my whole batch and potentially ruining the mead. What to buy instead of this kit:SanitizerStock pot big enough for all this. A 12-16 quart will be okay for a 1 gallon mead1 gallon glass carboy for second fermentation3 gallon glass carboy for primary fermentationYeast- many different types suggested by homebrewersYEAST NUTRIENT-mentioned in the manual, but not available in any of the kits.Auto siphon and tubingThermometer that actually goes into the mead. Such as clipping to the side of the stock pot.Mead recipe bookHoneyMetal stirring spoonHydrometer and test tube.Air lock of some type. Several on the market, and I am not professional enough to state what's best or preferential.
