Take On Your College Campus!
Note: I am not an avid "skater," just an average adult joe, who weights 145lbs, who likes to cruise on skateboard. I go to a large campus and I can only walk so fast. Before I got this penny style skateboard, I owned a traditional "trick" skateboard to get around, but I hated lugging it around because of it's size, and I'm not a fan of the loud rolling noise the hard wheels make. To me it sounds obnoxious and I'm not looking to attract attention while I ride. I actually bought three Penny style skateboards of different prices (The Original Penny Board for $68, Rimable for $29.99, and High Bounce for $39.99), and chose Rimable because of it's quality and price. Here's my take on each. --The Original Penny Board I'll be honest, this board had the smoothest and longest cruise of all three boards. Riding it was like gliding through a wave of butter, being spread across a stack of fresh, hot pancakes. Yes, it was that great, but on a college budget, shelling out nearly $70 dollars for a board I occasionally used was hard to justify, especially when the Rimable board came second in the best ride, and I'll get to that in a second. --The High Bounce With this one being $10 dollars more than the Rimable, I thought it's performance would be a no-brainer, but I realized a $10 difference doesn't guarantee a difference in quality. The reason I didn't go with this one was because it was too flexible under my weight. Just by standing on it, I could feel it flex under my weight, and while I wasn't worried it would break, I was more concerned that it would interfere with my riding. The ride on the Rimable and High Bounce were close, but that doesn't matter when you weigh as much as I do or more, and have the board bend under you. --Rimable This one was jusstttt right. Not too expensive, not poor in quality. The board could hold my weight as well as the Original Penny Board, and was only a tad-bit less smoother, but I forgot about it once I returned the Penny Board. At a fraction of the price, this also felt like a steal. Unless you absolutely have to have the Original, you can't go wrong with the Rimable. UPDATE: 5/14/2106 After having this board for over 5 months, I've come to love everything about it and am bumping up my review to 5-stars. The main reason I kept my previous rating to 4-stars was because, when compared to the Original Penny board, it doesn't glide as far, but as the weeks passed, glide mattered less to me, especially since I used it more for outdoor travel. Man, what me and this board have been through. I've had more than my fair share of trip-ups, spills, and falls on it, and in the end, my board is just as reliable as when I first purchased it. Overtime, it has gained a number of scuff marks because of my clumsiness, but that hasn't compromised the stiffness of the board. The wheels and metal "thingies" (Shows how much of an amateur I am) are still working well. There's no rust on the metal because it is aluminum, and the rubber wheels will get dirty if you're looking to ride it outside (just a heads up). Note: Because of it's short length, it's stability does becomes harder to control when riding really fast, like down steep hills. I may or may not have had to bail out a couple of times (whilst screaming in terror) when taking it down a really steep hill. So if you're an amateur like me, be careful.

Really great board
On the board: This is an extremely well made board and it's absolutely beautiful. It was difficult to turn at first but I loosened the trucks and it's perfect now. The paint has scratched quite a bit but an important thing to note is that I've never skateboarded in my life, so it was bound to get beat up. In retrospect I should've bought one of the plastic colored ones but this one was too beautiful and as soon as I get really good at skating I'm probably going to purchase the exact same color again. On riding: My God is this thing hard to learn on. The first night I got it I wouldn't even touch it. My cousin rode it a little and he had a bad fall but after thirty or so minutes he was getting better and better at it. The second day I was looking at it and I thought "why did I buy you if I'm not going to use you?" So I told myself to suck it up and start practicing. In about thirty minutes I could put both feet on and go a good bit. By the third day I could get on it, push, put both feet on and keep going after I had almost rolled to a complete stop. Now, I wasn't turning my stability foot (my right one; I skate goofy) perpendicular to the board, so my balance wasn't good. I thought I'd never be able to turn my dominant foot but by the end of the third day I could. I'm still not super used to it though and I have a long way to go before it's comfortable. Prime example: I was riding it yesterday, got too close to a wall, and fell, landing on my left wrist and spraining it pretty badly. Luckily there's no fracture but this little board is so tricky. It's my fault though for not wearing the protective gear I bought. That's been my first and only fall so far. I also ordered a longboard (which I've never ridden before either) and it's soo much easier to ride, especially if you get a drop-down or a drop-through one. I want to learn completely on this one though. I figure if I do the longboard will seem even easier once I've got the penny down pat (also this one is a hell of a lot more portable). If you've never ridden a skateboard, be prepared to dedicate yourself to practicing unless you're naturally gifted at it. It's not easy but it's worth it.

What you expect for the price.
I got 3 of these while they were on sale because they looked fun and I recently got back into skateboarding. I weigh 160 lbs the board flexes under my weight but doesn't feel like it will break. The bearings aren't bad for the low quality and actually came with spacers! They may need to be adjusted before/after break-in to get the maximum spin. The trucks aren't great quality but they are metal and are proportional to the deck size. The only real downside of these is the wheels. I put nice abec 9 bearings and aftermarket spacers in one and during light skating on smooth asphalt one of the wheels actually started to crack, never seen that happen before but it was a bummer. Overall not bad but I would get new wheels and bearings if you plan to buy one of these as a teen/adult. The bearing spacers that come with them can be reused and aren't necessary to replace, try not to lose them.

My grandson loves this skateboard. He is ten years old and just the right size and weight for him. The pattern is very vibrant and just the job for youngsters. It is easy to use and very durable. Good quality for money and would purchase again.
