Thoughts
I have not read this edition. I have read a very anotated translation of Justine. If you want porn thats not what your getting here. I think what you are getting is the birth of French existential philosophy. This complements Voltaire's Candide, which is a depiction of the best of all possible worlds' for Justine is in the more realistic 'worst of all possible worlds'.Has anything changed since deSade? I think very very little has. This crap can happen. I think the message is its the victims fault for reasons unknown and beyond control.

Incredibly boring, repetitious and inbecilic.
Despite the extreme depravity portrayed the author is amazingly coy about using everyday terms for actions and body parts. Really disappointed about the quality of the writing and the content.

The translation could have been better
The translation from French to English was done in a very mechanical way and did not account for metaphorical differences between old French and modern English. This made it difficult to understand some passages.

Truly Bizarre Edition
This truly bizarre edition has three books with no separation, table of contents, or title at top of page (only the collection title). It does, however, helpfully request that parents talk to their children about the Marquis de Sade's views on race. Who is buying this for their kids?!?!?!?!
