Review: Good algebra book that explains things well and makes learning fun Review: I've always been happy with the study guides, activity books and revision material from CGP. I do think they know how to create engaging study material. This algebra activity book is aimed at 10-11 year olds (year 6). I like how it begins with missing numbers, then moves onto replacing shapes with numbers before moving onto algebra with letters representing unknown quantities. Each double page spread in the book covers a different topic - Number Sequences; Algebra with Letters; Writing Formulas, Wordy Problems etc. and follows a similar format - How it Works, which explains what the pages will cover; Now Try These, four or five questions to try; and ending with An Extra Challenge, something a little bit trickier. Children can assess their progress using a smiley face system at the bottom of the page. In the centre of the book is a double page puzzle - The Orange Planet - which requires your child to work out a series of problems to find and free some trapped aliens. Answers are included at the back of the book which I like, as I'm not always able to work out the correct way to answer the questions. The images on the product page give you an excellent idea of the style and content of the book - very useful if you haven't used CGP resources before. Overall - At only 30 pages including answers and contents, it does feel a little on the thin side. But I think the content that is there is well written and this is a very good supplementary activity book which will give your child extra practice in Algebra.
