Making a Difference In My Life
I discovered John McDougall through a friend who explained the program to me. Right then and there I decided I needed to know more. So, I went to my first source for information ~ Amazon.com. When I discovered there was a McDougall for the Heart, I knew I was on the right track. I bought a used copy. Then, I couldn't wait for it to arrive. As soon as it came, I read it cover to cover, started fixing recipes and was amazed at how good eating right could really be. I committed to being vegan. The McDougall plan is easy to understand. One potatoe, two potatoe, three potatoe, four. It is starch based. Eat a starch as the basis for meal planning, add fruits and veggies, and you are good to go. I've lost 13 pounds in four weeks, feel great, and I am a heart patient. I am back to exercising when I had given up due to PAD and neuropathy. I am more like myself than ever. This is a decent book, easy read, and comes highly recommended. I was afraid I was going to have to kill the keys in order to be able to type something ever again. Al Milliren

A Classic Text on Achieving Heart Health
I have followed a heart healthy diet for almost four years now. When I began to heed the words of wisdom in this book, I found that my health did improve within ten days. Even though I was on a statin drug, two drugs for high blood pressure/heart and a blood thinner I was weakening fast. The advice in this book, eat a starch/vegetable for your nutritional needs prevented me from having another heart attack, lowered my cholesterol by fifty percent, put it into the range that my cardiologist wanted - under 150 for total cholesterol and under 75 for LDL. A lot of scientific evidence was provided to persuade me to follow this regime. There are a small number of physicians that are willing to advocate a low-fat diet. Besides Dr. McDougall, I have also read and recommend Dr. Esselstyn(Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease).

Take your heart's health seriously? This book is a must read.
Wow! This is great read if you have any interest in your heart and circulatory system. There is a deep well of information and and flowing stream of health promoting ideas. If you want to start taking control of your health and protecting yourself against a sudden, unexpected health crisis, this book is a great way to start the self-educational process. Dr. McDougall really know his stuff and he has helped change my life for the better.

even though this book was written a while ago, the info in it is totally up to date because Dr. McDougall has not changed his advice and beliefs over the years. This is actually one of my favorite books of his.

FOR MY MONEY THIS IS THE BEST OF MCDOUGALL'S BOOKS. IT HAS A LOT OF GOOD INFORMATION AND IT IS UNDERSTANDABLE. IT ALSO HAS SOME GOOD RECIPES AS DO ALL OF HIS BOOKS THAT I HAVE READ. I HAVE ORDERED AND READ SIX OF HIS BOOKS. THIS GUY IS ENTERTAINING WITH HIS KNOWLEDGE, ABOUT DEAD SERIOUS MATERIAL, BOTH IN HIS SPEAKING AND IN HIS WRITING.

Life saving book
This is indeed a life saving book if you want to treat heart disease and any other diseases without medicines and surgery and if you are ready to change your diet for the rest of your life. Highly recommended, as well as all John McDougall's books and programs.

I don't know what I was thinking when I ordered ...
I don't know what I was thinking when I ordered this one. It is many years old and not up to date on the info. or recipes. It is lying neglected in my cook book cupboard. Too many other low fat, plant based whole foods cookbooks out there.
