Q: How much water does it hold? It can be used to hatch brine shrimp too..

It's small it doesn't hold that much water. I'm assuming since shrimp are smaller than my gold fish it will work better for you.

Q: Had this in my cart and while I shopped, they saw it and jacked the price up 50cents!! As if this plastic thing isn't already too expensive!?

I find mine very useful when adding new fish to my aquariums. Worth the money.

Q: Does this container close with a lid? I am looking for a good container for transporting my fish from school to home in my car.

No theres no lid that I know of for it but if you need something for transport stop at a petco or petsmart and ask for bags they usually give them if you ask

Q: could you use it as a breeding tank and to keep eggs and fry safe from other fish in the tank.

that's just an observation tank they make a breeding version that divides fish from eggs
