Works great, must have realistic expectations
I bought this for a 1600 mile road trip in May 2024.My only other radar detector was the excellent but really annoying Valentine one gen one (v1) that got stolen from my glove box after the thief broke my window. This has drastically better false alert filtering than the old V1.I love City mode 1 (City plus a dash is indicated). I get pretty much no beeps for automatic doors and most SUVs. Highway mode, it turns on all the detection frequencies.Out of the more than 100 cops that I passed on my trip, yes it was that busy, about 20 of them had their radar guns on. The other 80 plus had them off, so naturally the detector did not go off.Sometimes cops use a feature called instant on radar, where they wait for a speeder to drive by with their radar off, only to turn it on for a couple seconds. If you're on a dark and lonely highway, with no other traffic, guess what will happen with a $1,000 detector and a instant on radar gun. You will get the same ticket as this $55 detector. This detector has noticeably shorter range than my V1 on the highway. But, if you hear a detector go off at 2 mi out or half a mile out, you're going to slow down all the same. This radar detector has a really cheesy mount, but somebody mentioned that there's an aftermarket Mount for it. I will be getting that. And the stock mount is adjustable by either squeezing or opening up the metal to make it level. With a stock Mount, there is a bit of bounce to the detector, but it seems to work just the same.Is this as good as a top-tier detector? No, it was the cheapest model from the last generation. It has limitations in range, but it is way less annoying to use than my old Valentine one. It is an excellent deal for the price, but having said that I plan on keeping this one in the spare car, and buying a uniden r4 for my main car. Remember that most cops do not have their radar gun on when you pass them.Best bang for buck low cost radar detector, from my research the ones in its price range are noticeably worse in operation.

It works! Well worth the money.
When I first bought this detector I was a little concerned because it was so cheap compared to other detectors and I thought that meant that it either wouldn't work or wouldn't work well enough to matter.Well I've been using it for awhile driving to work and even on a vacation and I have come to the conclusion that it works fine and it is definitely worth the money. I do have to leave city mode on because my car apparently uses the x band for lane assist or whatever, but most of the officers in my area, and the state troopers on my vacation, seem to be using the k and ka bands so city mode is fine. It's also plenty loud. I can still hear it with my radio's volume and bass cranked way up.I do get weird k/ka readings in places where there aren't any cops, unless their radar signal is bouncing off from really far away. These false(?) readings happen sporadically so I'm thinking maybe some other brands of cars use the k/ka band for lane assist or something like that? idk. I think it's too inconsistent for it to be sliding doors, but I could be wrong.Anyway, the detector has given me a fairly decent amount of warning before a cop depending on the cars in front of me. I haven't been pulled over or anything since I got it, and it has definitely helped me find some sneaky cops that had really good hiding places. If you don't think it works or that it gives you enough warning here are some important things to keep in mind:- Cops aren't always radaring 24/7 when they're on the side of the road. They might be taking a break or something, so just cuz it didn't go off when you passed a cop doesn't necessarily mean it doesn't work.- If there are no cars around you and there's a cop, he's pointing his radar at you and you have no warning. If there are cars ahead of you and it goes off, then you can get a warning because you're detecting the radar signal bouncing off someone ahead of you. Also, if you have a newer/luxury car you might try to check what band things like lane assist and adaptive cruise control use on your car. If they use the x band you can just leave city mode on and it should be fine (unless cops in your area still use x band), but if your car uses the k/ka bands you might have an issue cuz I don't think you can disable those bands and even if you could, the k/ka bands are the most commonly used bands by the cops. So it would kind of make the detector practically useless if you disabled those. In conclusion, it's an excellent little detector for the money and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a cheap and functional radar detector.
