Good value, great product
Love this AC unit! I needed a new one originally for the bedroom - however, I installed it in my living room and it ran on AUTO all summer long. Kept the living room and kitchen/dining room very comfortable throughout the blazing heat of this past summer with the addition of 2 small fans to help move the air around. It uses inverter technology, runs much quieter than usual window units, and lives up to its claim of 35% more energy efficient. (total electric house, I would definitely notice a normal window AC running 24/7 on the electric bill!) Surprisingly even installing in the window was relatively simple with good sealing. Truly step-by-step instructions if you've never installed one.

Nice Product; Some things to understand.
We had an 8k U Midea for ~5 years. VERY quiet. Needed an external support and was complicated to seal the window. Very good unit, but decided to take advantage of the recall. We replaced the above with this newer 8K Midea model. After some experimenting we are using the "Eco" mode. There is some blather about Energy Star and this mode for A/C's but in this case the fan cycles on and off which seems to better keep the correct temperature and has significantly less noise.Amazon still seems to have the wrong minimum vertical dimension of a window. It is about 14".Pros: Does not need an external support.Cons: The lowest fan level is louder than the one on our previous one; not sure the design rationale. We will add both internal and external covers during colder periods because while the inside part is not open to the outside, there is an internal plastic duct that would lose heat. Not as quiet as the U model (which I expected, but very reasonable).14 July 2025 update: The panel indicator lights do not stay illuminated which complicates knowing what the current settings are. The power requirements for them to be left on (E Star rules?) would be minimal. We have procedures that seem to mostly work now, but think the company should reconsider this aspect.

Cooling
Very very pleased with this cooler. Does a great job. Very quiet. Only downsize is we should have gotten a 10,000 but still cools pretty good

Great AC
Finally an AC that works! I bought and returned 3 others, different brands, bc they didn’t work and this one is great. It sometimes makes a slightly louder rattling sounds, when it’s kickstarting but then it quiets out and is not very loud. I’m very happy with it. It also cools off so much better than a 12,000 BTU portable AC even though this one is just 8,000 BTU.

Don't order from this company
This product is junk & Midea customer service is awful.Upon installation, the unit gave an error code of 07, which after two hours of troubleshooting shooting, I discovered meant it had a defective fan. When I spoke with an agent for their company the next morning, she knew exactly what the code meant which shows they are fully aware they are selling defective products.I wouldn't ever order another thing from these people.Thank God Amazon's return policy is convenient & I was able to get a refund but the point is, I needed an AC unit & now I'm inconvenienced for this company's lack of regard for quality & customer service.Shame on them!

The "secret" Silence Mode you should know about.
In the information describing the 8,000 BTU Midea, it's dB level is stated as 56dB, 50dB, and 40dB. No where in any of the previous reviews did anyone mention the Silence Mode. This feature can only be accessed by the remote control. Holding down the fan icon on the remote for three seconds will display a tiny symbol resembling a face with a finger in front, to indicate a whisper; this indicates the Silence Mode has been activated; Silence Mode slows down the compressor and fan speed so the unit's sound level is cut in half of what it normally would be if the fan speed is set to Low. If you have the unit mounted in a bedroom window, this significant reduction in the sound level will be very appreciated. The SmartHome app is also informative, indicating the current energy consumption; if it's correct, then this is a very efficient A/C. Overall, after using the unit for a week, I am very satisfied. And don't forget the Silence Mode.

I Received a Faulty Unit and Got a Warranty Replacement
I'm giving my Midea 8,000 BTU/hr smart inverter air conditioner five stars even though it was faulty. It randomly changed the temperature set point, the fan speed, the ECO function, and the operating mode. I kept a record of the times and the changes it made over several days, then I called Midea. They answered the phone, listened to my complaint, and recommended that I try shutting the unit down and restarting it. That made no difference. After a couple of more calls where we explored possible problems with the remote and the WIFI controls, Midea offered to replace the unit under warranty. I sent photos of the invoice and the nameplate, I kept the old one, I ordered another from Amazon, and Midea sent me a check. The service representatives were easy to work with, and I don't know how the situation could be handled any better. It's easy to be five star when everything goes well, and it's hard to be five star when things go badly. The replacement unit has been running for weeks now with no problems. It works. It is quiet, running continuously, speeding up and slowing down to match the cooling load. It starts without a current spike, and as a test I have successfully run it on my Honda EU2200i generator. I'd buy another.

Loud, but it does cool
I purchased this as a replacement for the recalled Midea air conditioner I had. This unit is pretty loud, especially compared to the recalled unit I had. I have to turn it off to make calls or take meetings. It makes a lot of cracking noises at night, so I have to turn it off at night and use a fan instead. Sometimes the up and down buttons on the unit don't work, but the remote works, so I just use that. This was easier to install than the other unit I had, and it does cool the room down nicely.
