Sailor Moon Eternal Edition 1 Review: Truly An "Eternal Edition" - I've bought every English-language Sailor Moon manga that's been printed, from Chix Comics back in the early 2000s to the more recent Kodansha release, and I have to admit, initially, this struck me as a gimmick and/or a money grab - did we really need another one? Yes, we did. This edition is FAR superior and I didn't realize how much I wanted something like this until I had it. It's so wonderful to have Naoko Takeuchi's beautiful artwork blown up at this size! The artwork on most of the pages probably hasn't been seen at this resolution since the managa's original Japanese serialization in "Nakayoshi" magazine in the 90s, and the details and delicacy of her linework really shine. At this size, the full-page layouts are especially stunning, and you can appreciate Takeuchi's use of space and design in a brand new way (I know I did). These new versions are also slightly more extensive than the previous versions, collecting several pages of beautiful full-color artwork for each chapter and including about one chapter more per book than the previous ones. It used to be that the only place you could see these full-color illustrations was in Takeuchi's art books, which are out-of-print in Japan and quite expensive! So it's wonderful to have them here. Each page, even the black and white ones, is printed on glossy, heavy paper, which adds to the image quality and substantive feel of the book. But I will say that what I really appreciated with this edition were the lovely hand-lettering (which is laid out much more attractively and in a font more appropriate to the artwork than the previous Kodansha releases) and, in particular, the wonderful new translation. I am fluent in Japanese and can be really picky about my English versions, and both of the previous publications were imperfect for me: the Chix ones were well-written, but took a lot of liberties with the text, while the Kodansha ones were accurate, but clunky and poorly written at times. This new one by Alethea and Athena Nibley is right in the middle and just perfect, and the translation notes included at the end are both amusing and thorough. I even learned a few new things! On the whole, if you are a Sailor Moon fan, give away your old editions and get these immediately. It's worth every penny, even if you've read the series a million times before. Review: Cute and fun! - I was obsessed with Sailor Moon when I was a kid and I was excited to see it was still around now that I have kids. I have introduced my oldest tween to all of the Collection!

SO WORTH IT!!
These books are SO high quality!! As a new budding sailor moon fan, I heard the anime was inaccurate, so I decided to purchase the manga for myself, and picked the eternal edition.. It’s so good!! The art is stunning, the book itself is large so it’s easy to read, there is a bit of a holographic glitter coating over this book I’m not sure about the rest, but it is definitely worth the price.

Love the shimmer
I ordered the original version on sale to start collecting and reading. Minutes later I found this sparkle version! It is bigger than the normal size (DS for comparison) and it has colored photos inside for each Act. Love them! I did get one where the sparkle vinyl was starting to detach but Amazon got me a next day replacement. Books don't come covered so there may be minor scratches or defects but it won't take away from the holographic.

BEAUTIFUL EDITION!
I have been a lifelong Sailor Moon fan and have collected all of the U.S. editions released starting around 2011. However, after they were damaged due to a family member's neglect, I really wanted to have start a beautiful collection focused on the art of the original manga. The Eternal Edition (a kanzenban, I believe it's called) is absolutely breathtaking. The size is much taller than a normal manga volume, but the art is beautiful! This is art that was in much wider circulation in Japan, and the covers have a beautiful holographic shift across the front. I love the heft of the edition and I absolutely love that these embody each volume in its completeness. I have already pre-ordered volumes 2-4 and I cannot wait for future releases! I wouldn't recommend me these for regular reading, but definitely take a look and appreciate the art this volume has to offer!

Gorgeous book, needs better shipping
I absolutely LOVE Sailor Moon and was feeling a little nostalgic. I wish I started collecting these much sooner. The cover of the book is so beautiful and so is the art on each glossy page. That being said, Amazon needs to find a better way to ship softer cover books because they can get easily damaged during shipping. It’s not the first book I’ve gotten from Amazon with noticeably creased edges and I see that happening over and over again in the comments. Manga is still art and you wouldn’t buy any piece of art with creased up and mishandled corners. These books also aren’t the cheapest, especially if you’re collecting them all but they’re worth it, they should just be treated better during shipping. I’m sure I’m not the only one that intends on keeping these and carefully collecting them for years of enjoyment and it’s a little off putting when you take care of your books and have to be reminded of poor shipping every time you pull them out

I grew up with the anime and never got to read the manga. Picked up the series and finished this volume in a day. I recommend this volume

Absolutely so much better than crystal and the 90s anime. The manga brings forth so many emotions especially the funny scenes with Usagi. I also love how dark the manga is compared to the 90s anime. Love it and Can't wait to buy the other editions :)
