Best Hiking Day Pack?
I think this is perhaps one of the best packs available for quick trips or day activities. A combination of ruggedness, coloration, size and utility makes this pack exactly what I was looking for. Not too big to try to fill and not too small to restrict additional items that might be needed for the day. Option to carry additional gear on the outside without looking like I’m going on some kind of deployment. Great pack. Note: no matter what, the camera actually makes the pack look more purple than it is. It looks more bluish-charcoal and a deeper khaki to the eye (closer to the fourth, fifth and sixth pics, and also the Amazon stock photo), which I prefer, but the purplish-hue doesn’t look bad either.

Rugged, well designed, lacks some integrated storage
I was in search of an under-seat carry-on backpack for US Domestic air flight. My current (5.11 Rush 24) is just a little too wide for some flights, so I decided to try this product which is narrower than the Rush 24.As with all 5.11 products that I have purchased, it is rugged and reliable. No complaints there whatsoever.PROS: The integrated padded laptop sleeve is awesome. It will easily fit a 15" laptop. I use a SurfacePro so there is never a problem getting it in and out of the pack. The interior of the pack is absolutely spacious and can fit all manner of road-warrior things. Interior it has two (1 each small/medium) zippered mesh compartments, but I found the access to these compartments was not very easy. The integrated, microfiber-lined sunglasses compartment at the top, however, is an awesome feature. The Rapid Origin pack has an "almost robust enough" top outer compartment that will fit items. Interior, it is very spacious, but it lacks some compartmentalization that I liked from the previous pack. Make no mistake - it will indeed fit my "mobile office" that i require for client work, it just fits it differently. I found it necessary to add a MOLLE pouch on the exterior of the bag to help with cable storage and access. Additionally, I've had to add a few "1/4 cubes" for interior compartmentalization that I didn't need when using the previous pack. Will I be keeping it? Yes. It serves the function that I purchased it for, but I don't think I'll be using it on a daily basis as it is just quite as robust as I want.

Great Pack!! A solid alternative to a GORUCK for 1/3 the price.
I really wanted to get a GORUCK but just couldn't swallow the price, even for used versions. The Rapid Origin was the perfect alternative and had a bunch of features that made it stand out. Not only way less $$ than a Goruck, but also has better organization and some solid additional features. Love the executive pocket, internal water bottle holder, and the quick-release straps. Easy pack to use for EDC and day hiking. Would recommend.

Color Misrepresentation
The color representation for Tac OD is completely wrong. The picture I posted, which has been recently posted on the 5.11 website now shows the corrected color for Tac OD. I called 5.11 Tactical HQ to explain this but they could not comprehend the color issue at the time. Hopefully they can now understand it and FIX IT. I believe they had an incorrect colorway prototype before launch and completed their product photo shoot and have not changed them. I returned my order for mainly that reason as I wanted the colorway that was shown that looks more tan than green (please release this colorway!).I am now considering the Rapid Quad pack not only because of the color but because it has 4 cinch straps and I want to be able to hold smaller loads against my back (the Amp 12 is ideal but the cost is outrageous since one can periodically find the Rush 12 for $80; also, they changed the shoulder straps from horizontal molle to vertical molle, unfortunately). This pack and the Rush 12 only have top cinch straps to remove interference with the lower side molle, but this causes smaller loads to sink to the bottom rather than enable a distributed load across one's back. Maybe one day 5.11 Tactical will produce a pack that aligns with my needs; I keep hoping.

Good design, but needs improvement.
I like the simple design of this pack, minus the tactical look.Pro:- squared-off (rectangular) shape maximizes space. Flat bottom allows bag to sit up.- full length main zip compartment opens front flap for easy packing.- internal sleeve and mesh zipper pockets for organization.- minimalist design.- durable materials.Cons:- could use one more external pocket. The Rapid Quad Zip backpack has a second external pocket, but not this one.- mesh water bottle pocket on the inside is not the place I want a water bottle. I can see using it for other items though.- secondary front pocket has a really small opening. The bottom seam of the pocket is sewn below the second row of molle. The vertical seam for the molle is sewn thru the front pocket. This means the front pocket has small voids (useless space) at the bottom. If you put your hand in the pocket, you can feel your fingers poke into the voids, but not completely thru it.- shoulder straps are thick with plenty of padding, but I don’t find them any more comfortable.- shoulder strap adjustment is not good. There’s not much range. When you’re wearing the pack, pulling down on the strap ends to raise and tighten the pack against your back is not smooth or easy. I did not feel confident pulling on the straps. I had to feed the buckle, then pull thru. Feed then pull, feed then pull, one side at a time. The height of the buckle was not at a comfortable position to reach.- lots of molle. The best thing I like about this bag is the squared off main compartment and full length zipper opening. The worst thing I find about this bag is the shoulder straps.I ended up returning the backpack. It has what I want for a main compartment, but that’s about it.

I love the look of this bag but it doesn't function well.
I love the look of this bag with the web molle system at the front but also has the modern slim look of a backpack. The bag is definitely smaller than I thought but no big deal. Though the material that's used for the bag is rather thin (could be durable?) and so the bag can't really sit on the ground on its own. The laptop compartment can barely fit my 15" Dell laptop which gives a really snug fit. The rear water hydration compartment is rather useless and I hope 5.11 would simply make that area as a zipped up compartment so it can be a catchall pocket there. The shoulder straps and the back cushioning are my biggest complaint - they aren't comfortable at all! I really want to keep this bag but unfortunately, I am returning it.
