Q: How long will the batteries last ( like four months)? Will they work in a below zero temp.? Will there be a smell from the dead ones?

I am on my 3rd multi-kill trap. It is the best trap I've ever used. Yes the trap will work in every temperature. If it's warm out you have to check trap daily or it will smell & fly's will get in trap somehow & you will end up with magots. My trap in 4 day's have killed about 20 mice. I use peanut butter to bait the trap, I also put a little peanut butter on the steps as well as the little trap lid. Do not get peanut butter or any liquid on the metal plate's, it will make trap malfunction. By the way my trap has killed 10 mice in 1 night. Hope this helps

This info is found on a similar trap patent listing, its prob the same. Once activated, the circuit delivers a high voltage pulse train to the killing plates 102, 104. These high voltage pulses are preferably delivered as spikes of approximately 4000V occurring every 4.25 ms over a 20-second killing cycle, step 312. The peak to peak current passing through a 1 M ohm trigger resistor when the circuit is activated is about 4 mA, and the load current is, about 160 mA.

Q: Is this trap good to catching voles or moles?

As a field mammalogist who has trapped moles for research purposes I can, with confidence, say this particular trap style would be impractical for catching either moles. Mole trapping requires a trap that is actually placed inside the mole's burrow. That, would of course, be impractical with this trap. It is however possible that this MAY work with voles - I can't speak specifically to that case.

Q: what type of batteries

c cell. I will run on the 6 batteries for months. I works better than any other trap... electric, standard, etc. I had the first one for 4 or 5 years until I bridged the electrodes out with peanut butter and jammed it up. I have used an even more expensive better rated electric mouse trap and it was poor. Go with this E-Trap....No poison needed, kid safe, animal safe, environmentally safe, Humane as well. Use dry dog food and a little bit of peanut butter...at the very end of the trap compartment. No touch needed to remove the mice.
