Smartly presented box of air, with accompanying DVD.
This particular item comprises a carton that is about as large as a medium-length novel. Inside the carton was a DVD and on the DVD is about 1.8 gigabytes of 'stuff', most of which you probably don't want (hundreds of fonts, and an outdated version of the Firefox Internet browser, for example). There was no written manual, so the carton is about 8x larger than it needs to be and is mostly occupied by stale air.Installation with a Virtual Machine running Windows XP was straightforward. There is a long 'licence-key' number that has to be entered. No Internet connection was required. The carton states something to the effect that the software may be installed on up to three computers within the same premises so long as only one installation of the software is in use at any given moment. When using a word-processor I do sometimes need to use the more advanced features such as indexing, table-of-contents, multi-level outline, cross-referencing and so on. I don't think Wordperfect is actually perfect but when compared with "Microsoft Word" and with the OpenOffice / LibreOffice "Writer", I find Wordperfect to be easily the best word-processor for my purposes, by which I mean it is the one that allows me to produce the high-quality, technical documentation that I need to produce with the least amount of exasperation.Nonetheless I find the interfaces of all three of the aforementioned word-processors to be clumsy, and to be slow and inefficient to use, especially when compared to the keyboard driven word-processors of the 1990s; I still like to daydream that one day IBM might resurrect and update Displaywrite-5 since that really was a tool for getting the job done without faffing about, and it provided columns and indexes better and more easily than do any of the three big contemporary word-processors. Of course, it didn't know what pictures were, nor tables, it predated PDF and it had only two fonts ... so, alas, I won't be using it to produce new documents any time soon.Quattro, the Corel spreadsheet is competent. My demands of a spreadsheet are fairly modest and I find that "Microsoft Excel", "Corel Quattro" and the Openoffice / LibreOffice "Calc" are adequate for my needs. There are other tools in this pack but I don't use them, so cannot comment.

A Good Substitute for Microsoft Office for Personal Use
I bought word-perfect for my personal use after getting totally fed up with windows 365 and cancelling my subscription. So far I have been very pleased. The various packages (word processor, spreadsheet, presentations) don't have as many features as the equivalent Office products, so you may find one or two things you are used to doing in Office to be difficult in Word Perfect. I also had some early issues with saving files which were resolved by turning off the automatic save feature. But on the plus side the word processor doesn't keep reformatting text when you don't want it to, and will generally open the latest format Microsoft Office documents (so far I have only had problems opening one very complex presentation). Please bear in mind that this review is for version X6, and COREL do have a later version available which may be even better. But for private use, X6 has been fine and I don't have the endless aggravation of managing the Office 365 online subscription.

Still the best
Have used WordPerfect for over 25 years. It is a far better word-processing program than Word. WordPerfect gives you far greater control without having to fight with the software over the formatting, doesn't hide what it's doing, and still gives you many options and extras. The export to PDF function is very handy, as is the templates and "projects" that come built-in.It comes with the usual program packs of previous home versions I have had - Quattro Pro, Presentations, etc. I purchased this primarily for the word-processing at home, but the other programs may come in handy at some point. I wish Corel had included the e-pub add-on function for this pack that is available in the professional version.Installation was a breeze; I think I had everything loaded and up and running in under 15 minutes. It had no problem recognising my printer. I had seen a review cautioning to turn off your firewall/virus guard prior to installation, which I did. However, my son was able to load it on his machine without turning his firewall off. (The pack licenses for 3 PCs, which also makes it good value for money.)

Return of an old friend
Just bought a new laptop and needed a software suite I could reasonably afford, and one that didn't need re-licensing each year. But, silly ME...I never checked to see if this would run on a 64bit machine. But, guess what? It says it does, so that'll do me. The packaging blurb also reports that this suite will work with Windows 8, so again, loadsa happiness in my house! It's been years since I used this program, back in the days when wordperfect screens were a darkish blue! Must have been back in the early 90s when I last used it, so I'm looking forward to seeing, and using an old friend again. I really did like this back in the day. Thinking about it, I learned how to use a computer with an early version of wordperfect. That really was many years ago. It was simplicity to use, then, and, by all the reviews here, it's just as good now. I'll pop it on over this weekend and update this review, then.

Perfect!
Another laptop, another copy of MS Office required, I thought WordPerfect must be worth a look. It comes on CD, loads in a jiffy, and doesn't moan about activating (I've loaded it on Windows 10, no trouble at all).I got my most complex Word document with automatically indented/numbered paragraphs, bullet lists, etc (Word 2010 docx document), and WordPerfect loaded it ok, I could edit it ok, then I could save at as a MS docx, or WordPerfect document. Only thing that needed a minor correction was a couple of the automatically numbered paragraphs which had reset back to paragraph 1 (which was easy to change in WordPerfect, when I try to change this in Word the whole numbering sequence tends to go haywire). Also tried an Excel spreadsheet in the WordPerfect's Quattro spreadsheet, just had to adjust the format of time value cells, otherwise spot on.WordPerfect Office it is from now on!
