Excellent Granulating Paints
I love these highly granulated paints! The variations in each color are so much fun to use and gives interest to whatever you are painting. They are good quality granulating watercolors and go on the paper smoothly, blending well.

Are perfect and beautiful except they were used!!!
Beautiful paints, but was given a used package!!I have been drooling over these colors since they were first released and they are absolutely gorgeous and well worth the wait, but I have to say, I’m not happy about receiving a used set!! If it was anymore used than this, I would have returned it, but I don’t appreciating full price for something someone already got to play with! It looked like someone just tried the paints with a small brush to try out ans decided it wasn’t for them and sent it back. I feel like Amazon should have a separate payment option for used items given at a discount and not be sold for full price or at least let the customer decide if they want to still purchase it after someone else tried it out. It’s not that big of a deal, just obviously super annoying. At the end of the day and in all honesty, I would have paid twice as much for these paint because I do love them so much! But I bought these with a gift card my mom sent to me for a birthday gift so that’s more or less the reason why I’m so annoyed with them being used already. The first few photos are of before I got to try them for myself and of the torn packaging as well.I decided that even though they were used, I still gave these 5stars because they are exactly as I was expecting and are absolutely gorgeous paints!!As most reviewers of these paints, have to agree that the extra pan for “water” is actually quite useless unless you’re ONLY using ONE color at a time because the pan is so small. I would have liked to see a whole extra color OR 6 colors WITH 6 extra empty pans, one for each color, but to add ONLY one pan when these colors require so much water to really strut their stuff, is just silly because it forces you to use an extra palette anyways.I thinks these colors would really pop if they were used on cold pressed/rough WC paper. I just used a random piece of cardstock to test them out really quickly.I can’t wait to make some real art with them!!

Japanese watercolors
I added Kurtake Gambi watercolors to my collection of paint. They are different than standard professional watercolors but they are beautiful and fun to use. The paint in this palette are magical. When applied to wet paper they granulate and swirl into beautiful colors.

Fabulous Alchemy in Granulating Water Colors!!!!!!!!
I still have four more colors to experiment with but I'm loving these colors so much! I tried some roses with the Aurora Violet color and got spectacular results! I also have examples of arora red and aurora orange shared here! These are alchemical magic!!!!!!!!!!! Can hardly wait to try the other colors!!!! What I'm finding in the youtube videos that are being shared is that often the demonstration is being done without much water and without letting the paints rest in water for a little bit first. Also these are most vibrant if you paint a nice wet layer and then leave it alone. Going back over these tends to muddy them because the colors separate out again in another layer of chaos that does not match the first layer.

Doesn’t beat the first series
As soon as I knew these were coming out, I had to order them because the first set was so fun and unpredictable. In the pan, this collection shows its base color quite clearly, which is very different from the originals which are all a muddy brown. The photo is from swatching in my sketchbook, and these don’t deliver in quite the same way, and you need to work them rather a lot in order to make them display their granulation. I’m mildly disappointed simply because the wow factor isn’t there. I will use them still, as I do like them, and the Cosmic Violet brings the galactic glory.

Great watercolors
Great quality, the colors are not obvious when you paint, but look fantastic when dried, make yoursef a swatch card, and do not overwork it, let it dry and add more if needed, or it my it get muddled

Great for Creative Painting
I’ve just purchased these but can tell I’ll really like them. I’ve so far used them with a variety of other paints and their characteristics can be used to enhance a watercolor or used by themselves for more abstract work. I’m not an artist but enjoy doing watercolors from time to time. I needed to regard the attached picture as one I “went to school on.” These particular watercolors were used in combination with other Japanese watercolors from the Kuretake/Boku-Undo/Kissoh lineup (all great, all available from Amazon) in an attempt to capture the beauty of the Aurora Borealis shimmering over northern Manitoba’s “Land of Little Sticks.” This second set (cosmic blue and cosmic violet) of granulating watercolors was used for the night sky. When one does swatches, this set’s behavior, while showing some color variations, is more predictable than Kuretake’s first set of granulating watercolors (though I used the Aurora Violet of the first set for part of the Aurora band). This is not a fault of the first set, just a characteristic to beware of and one that can be put to very good use. I also used the Cosmic Blue in an attempt to capture the nighttime color of water in the foreground. I attempted to capture the reflections but need to work on this some. In summary, I highly recommend these. I feel they have the same high quality that is typical of other Kuretake products.

It's exactly as described!
It's loads of fun. Love the way the colors separate. Just wish they had made varied color choices than all of them in the purple and red hues...
