Q: whats that black coloring leeching into my rice? Is that normal? Is it safe?

The inner pot itself isn't stainless steel. I suggest washing the inner pot with normal dish water and soap and add 1/2 cup or so of white vinegar to the water.

Q: What is the dimension of the steam tray (diameter and height)?

It's about 6.5" in diameter, 2" high. I can't imagine getting more than one portion of veg in it. I still use the microwave for steaming. The Aroma is small; you can make a bunch of rice in it, but if you make something like a stew, it only holds enough for 2, maybe 3 servings.
