This book is so beneficial for aspiring consultants. It provides you with the core skills that you need in order to solve a wide array of cases. Victor makes it very clear that you need to develop the correct, critical, thinking skills and provides you with the material to do so. He essentially provides you with an approach that can theoretically help you solve any case. This is so important because many candidates try to fit a framework, which they have memorised in great detail, to an unrelated problem. Even though the evidence before them shows that the framework they are using is irrelevant, these candidates lack the ability to customise their frameworks. Victor’s approach helps you to create custom issue trees (another word for framework) so that you can alter your framework midway through an interview, without having to panic. He also stresses very important points throughout the book. For example, many candidates fail to provide the interviewer with a hypothesis or they do not explicitly mention their hypothesis. However, you need to understand that the book can only take you so far. In my estimation, you will need to do more research and studying. I seriously recommend purchasing the look over your shoulder programme (LOMS) on Victor’s website, in addition to reading this book. It will take your case solving skills to another level. This is because you will be able to see where candidates have gone wrong and what approach they should have taken. This is invaluable for aspiring consultants. Provided you make the most out of it and fully internalise what is transpiring in the LOMS programme. For those candidates who want to obtain a position with the top three consulting firms, I seriously recommend you read this book. I also recommend you start practicing your mental math skills under pressure. My final piece of advice is to practice as many cases as you can.

This book has helped me in many different ways, I was extremely unsure of what to expect in a Case Interview and this basically sums up every importante detail. Thank you so much for being so clear and passing on your experience, it’s extremely comforting knowing about what to expect and how to deliver.

Case Interview Secrets is practical, clear, and concise. It delivers just what you need to know to nail a case interview. It worked for me and I got the job. Here's how the book helped me. I came across this book just 24 hours before my case interview. I worked through the book and zeroed in on sections I thought were most important for me. I focused most on the frameworks that Victor Cheng presents. I learned the frameworks and created practice scenarios using situations I had experienced. At the end of my preparation I felt very confident that I could lead a case interview conversation. And that is what mattered most. Confidence. Because, of course, in the interview, none of the frameworks exactly applied. But my mind was prepared to think in terms of frameworks. That was really helpful. When I arrived at the interview, I was ready to go to the white board and lead a discussion knowing I had frameworks to draw on. But the book is much more than a set of frameworks. The book also explains how to structure your case discussion. There is specific guidance for creating an opening, analysis, and closing for your case. This gives you a great view of how to create a discussion on-the-fly, which is what you have to do in a case interview. This book delivers the content, and sets your frame of mind, so that you can confidently enter a case interview.

A great starting point for those considering consulting. Provides good case structures and teaches you to think both as a consultant and as an interviewer. On unfortunate thing, that is hard to ignore, is Victor's constant need to tell us how smart and intelligent he is. Strange that after what he's accomplished and at his age he still needs to "establish credibility" (as he calls it) in almost every second chapter... I hope the whole industry isn't like this...

After reading case in point I felt a bit lost. I could follow interviews but due to my lack of business background I did not know well enough where all those frameworks came from. This book gives a more scientific approach I have found impressively interesting.
